Numbers matching 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SX in very good condition. One of only 1,820 hardtops produced in '71. (Total production of the SX = 1970: 6,404 hardtops, 793 convertibles; 1971: 1,820 hardtops, 357 convertibles.) The SX (Y-79 option) was produced only in 1970 and 1971. The SX is much rarer than the highly collectible Olds 442, yet similarly equipped.
The SX included the big block Olds Rocket 455ci 4BBL engine, the Turbo-Hydramatic (TH400) automatic transmission, and dual exhaust with cutout bumper. More information about the SX can be found at www. SX455.com.
The car in this listing is a mostly original car with records showing one engine (L32 code) rebuild (bored 30 over) and one repaint in the original Matador Red (75 code). Originally a white vinyl top car. Paint still shows overall very well, but does have some nicks and scratches and some what I believe to be easily repairable bubbling around the rear window. Body lines/panels are very straight. Seats are the original pearl white in good condition except for some cracking on the top rear seats. Black carpet is in very good condition and includes new Cutlass SX rubber floor mats. New sport-style Oldsmobile steering wheel. Headliner in very good condition, no cracks in dash. New glove box liner. Many new OEM-style reproduction decals in and out. All gauges work, wipers and horn work. Interior lights all work. Headlights, signals, rear lights all work. New AM/FM Classic Auto Sound radio including USB in order to play MP3, iPod, etc. Infinity 6x9s in rear deck, and Infinity 5.5s in front kick panels. Original kick panels included in the event buyer wishes to have the original look. I also have a new trunk divider and jute which is included with any sale.
Power steering and power front disc brakes. Recently rebuilt carburetor. Newer tires all around with a full-sized spare and an extra new tire, purchased this year. New window and trunk rubber. Exterior trim is complete, and bumpers have been re-chromed. Less than 5k on newer suspension. VERY minor oil leak that produces less than a couple tablespoons after each drive.
The car is equipped with air conditioning; however, under dash A/C hosing/tubing needs to be replaced.
Fremont, CA, built car that has spent the last 25 years in AZ. Very dry body, very little surface rust on the undercarriage. Solid floors and trunk. I believe the build sheet may be above the gas tank as on other Fremont-built cars, but I have not dropped the tank to look. Car has the original owner's manual, and I have all receipts dating back to the early '90s.
This is a very nice, rare muscle car that is gaining in popularity and value. The SX registry lists only 687 known survivors as of May 2017. Affordable way to enter the classic car world. Great car.
