1955 Oldsmobile Holiday Coupe
1955 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Description
Up for auction is my 1955 Oldsmobile Holiday coupe which I purchased 7 years ago in Temecula, CA. At the time I was looking for a nice cruiser that I could drive to car shows and cruises. I did not want a trailer queen but a car that would comfortably handle the freeway speeds here in southern California. After a test drive I realized I had found the car. The odometer read 56K miles which I was told was original. I purchased the car.
The car was assembled at the GM assembly plant in South Gate, CA. on 9-1-55. The car was sold at Bob Spreen Oldsmobile Cadillac dealership in Huntington Park, CA. on 9-24-55 to Mr. and Mrs. James Weir. My records show that there were 4 previous owners prior to my purchase. I have numerous records and receipts from the former owners as well as numerous receipts during my ownership. I also have the original Owners Manual, Service Policy, Shop Manual and old Polaroid photos of the car when new, one with Mrs.Weir.
After I bought the car I made some safety improvements. I added rack and pinion steering, power disc brakes (front), radial tires, and seat belts. The engine, transmission, and differential are all stock. All the factory gauges, radio, and lights work as they should. All windows are like new and roll up and down easily. The turn signals and vacuum windshield wipers work. The Oldsmobile is garaged nightly.
The car was professionally restored and painted before I bought it and even today it looks like new. The color, Polar White and Glen Green, is a factory color. There are no dings or dents, and the stainless and chrome shine like new. The wide white wall tires are almost new with a new spare in the trunk. The upholstery, headliner and seats have no tears, fading or stains. You will not see any rust or pitting anywhere on this car, inside or out. This car gets a lot of compliments and has won many awards.
And the best is that this car handles well on the highways. With tight steering and power disc brakes, it cruises at 70-75 mph easily. And last week when I drove to a show in San Diego, I was getting 17-18 mpg. I am very comfortable driving this car long distances.
This car is for sale locally so I may end this auction early.
As this Oldsmobile is 62 years old there is no warranty, expressed or implied. Sold "As is". Transportation is up to the buyer. No trades.
If you are in the Palm Springs area and would like to see the car, that can be arranged. If you have any questions please give me a call. Ernie (760) 831-9977.
Because of my age and health, I need to downsize. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
