1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass/442 W-30 Nordic Blue Original "Code 24" Convertible recreation being sold with "No Reserve"
This Oldsmobile up for auction is the perfect classic droptopto enjoy the rest of the summer into thefall weather. If you have been looking for a beautiful classic convertible that you can instantly become a fan favorite at the local car shows in your area or you would like to use this sweet blue beauty as a daily driver then thisrare convertiblemay have your name on it! These 1970's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts.Remember, When the top goes down the price goes up! It is becoming increasingly harder and harder to find a true Nordic Blue 442 with white stripes in a convertible with each passing year. Everyone who knows these cars know this color and interior combination is one of the most popular and most desirable. This is a very rare attractive body color!
This convertible originally came from the factory ordered as paint code 24 Nordic Blueas verifiedon the data plate. The body had its original paint but was dull and faded after 46 years of existence. The majority of the chrome was removed and the body wasbeautifully paintedwith a gallon of the original paint code 24 Nordic Blue followed by the white W-30 stripes buried in the clear coat. The body is virtually laser straight and very close to show quality. The metallic in theNordic Blue paint really makes this car look stunning. The cool dual snorkeled ram-air hood has brand new chrome twistdowns. A brand new front bumper and a brand new rear cut-out bumper were both installed after the paint work. Brand new 1971 442 grilles were installed at that time with new 442 emblems, and new W-30 emblems to make this classic look like a real W-30. Brand new chrome door handleswith gaskets were also installed toopen the doors with ease. The complete dual exhaust with flowmaster type mufflersare brand spanking new thatincludes the infamous new chrome trumpet exhaust tips running out the rear of the cut-out back bumper. This car sounds wicked to say the least.
This sweet Oldsmobile convertible up for auction is a W-30 recreation. I'm sure all the real Olds guys out there knowhowhard it is to find a Nordic Blue Cutlass/442 convertible. I was told that the mileage is correct at barely rolling over once. According to the previous owner, this Olds does have the original numbers matching Rocket engine and I double checked to make absolutely certain that the engine numbers match the vehicle identification numbers. I believe mostly all of the original componentsare on this engine with the exception of the electronic ignition. That was changed over toinsure thatthis Rocket fires right up every time. I never cared to mess with points, so that was a most welcomed upgrade. In preparation for the sale thisengine was treated to a fresh oil change and oil filter and thefollowing items were installed:new spark plugs, spark plug wires, new rotor, and a new distributor cap. This Olds starts right up and runs and drives great. The brakes are very touchy and makeyou feel like you could stop on a dime.
The convertible top is brand spanking new and was just installed last week. The newconvertible top does have a back glass window. There is an originalwhiteCalifornia convertible top boot included in the trunk. That can be placed over the top when the top is down in the well.
The entire interior still shows in very nice condition as seen in the pictures. The original dash pad is in very nice shape, and I couldn't find any cracks anywhere.Fortunately this dash was never cut up like was typicallydone tothese cars back in the day. The vanity mirror is still on the passenger sun visor. The original AM radio is still present and actually works, but only hooked up for sound through a front speaker. The rear speakers must have been used somewhere in the past with an aftermarket stereo. The rear speakersstill look in good condition, so the new owner may want to add an upgraded stereo at some point, so those speakers were not removed.
The options on thisOldsinclude power steering, power brakes, power convertible top, dual sport mirrors, five Super Stock II sport wheels, 442 sport steering wheel, and tinted glass. The wipers work on both speeds with a new washer fluid container. All thehead lights, bright lights, all four tail lights, all four brake lights, all four turn signals, all four cornering lights, emergency flashers, andeven the license plate light all work as they should. The front bench seat was recently reupholstered with new padding, so it should be nice and comfortable for many years to come. This bench seat even has the cool center arm rest option making top down cruising a pleasure. These classic convertible's are a wonderful way to bond as a family unit atthe local drive-in movie theater.
After the engine was detailed I tried to place all of the original factory decals in the engine compartment and under the trunk lid, so this Nordic Blue beauty would appear as close to the way it did when it rolled out of the factory on to the show room floor back in 1971. The front and the rear floor pans are the originals and have never been replaced. I've never had the car up on a lift, but in my opinion from looking under the car the floors and frame still appearin goodcondition. The carpeting still looks in nice condition, so it may have been replaced at some point. There is anew set of fourbrand new black carpetedfloor mats along with brand new door chrome door sills.
This Olds rides ona brand new set of fourMastercraft Avenger G/T P225/R7014 raised white lettered steel belted radial tires mounted on color coded Super Stock II wheels that were paintedat thesame time as the Nordic Blue body. All four SS II wheels have newchrome lug nuts, all fourbolt-on center caps, andall fourbeauty trim rings. There is a 10-bolt rear-end, but I am unsure of the gear ratio. The trunk floorwas replaced just prior to my ownership withthe correctfull GM A-body trunk floor pan kit and was coated with black and aqua AC Delco spatter sprayto make it appear factory correct, sothe trunkshould stay in nice condition for many years to come. The trunkcarries a full size exact matching Super Stock II wheel with a matching Avenger GTspare tire withthe originaljack, jack stand, bumper mount, and crow bar all nicely detailed. This way if there is ever a mishap on the road with a quick tire change you can be back on the road in minutes looking complete. The trunk has a brand new gasket seal and inside the trunk has the original styled trunk floor mat.
I saw no signs of this car ever being involved in an accident. The suspensionhas newer rear shocks and looks to be in very good condition. This Oldsreally sits up awesome with the proud stance of a true 442 W-30. According to the OldsFaqs website that anyone can look up online only 1304 Cutlass/442 convertible models were made in 1971. What you see is exactly what you get! These mostly complete older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find. Not many of these convertible's are left in existence. Especially in Nordic Blue!!
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Convertible listed at $301,375 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
Nada has the average condition valued at $203,375, which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
They have the lowest condition value at $145,875 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. Why not enjoy close to the same looking convertible for a fraction of those prices.
