1966 Oldsmobile Cutlass Description

Are you in the market for a true American muscle car? While the prices of Chevelles and GTOs have skyrocketed, these Oldsmobile Cutlass' are still one of the best kept secrets in the classic car industry. The same tidy A-body footprint, a uniquely aggressive Oldsmobile look, and a fantastic combination of power and luxury that the junior brands couldn't quite match. And this '66 Cutlass doesn't disappoint. We know that the original exterior paint color was almond-beige, and while there is nothing wrong with that color, we are extremely glad that someone opted to change to the beautiful eye-catching silver. Instead of getting lost in the '70s, it is now a slick, clean looking car. Crisp body lines are a highlight of the 1966 Cutlass, and the sharp crease running along the tops of the fenders along with the tunneled back windshield make a subtle yet effective styling statement. It's evident that Oldsmobile designers were not afraid to use chrome. The bumpers, grille surround, the chrome right down the center of the hood, and not to mention the side trim all add a sparkle to the already bright silver paint. This is a car to take out on the road and enjoy and while the paint does show some wear, it just goes to prove that this Holiday coupe was made to drive. The original bronze interior was also swapped out for a more energizing red vinyl with cloth inserts, and the results are fantastic. The carpets and door panels are clean, and the detailing adds a richness to the car that would not be expected in a car at this price. The factory gauges cover only the bare minimum, so a set of three under-dash auxiliary gauges were installed to keep tabs on the oil, water, and tach. There's an aftermarket AM/FM radio that has USB capabilities bringing today's convenience to this classic. The instrument panel's bright face is original, and is probably the only item inside that shows the car's age, as even the trunk features a new mat and full-sized spare tire.Oldsmobile's 330 cubic inch V8 was hardly a slouch in the performance department. Cackling to life with that characteristic Oldsmobile starter chatter, it idles smoothly and pulls with torque that suggests more cubic inches at work than there actually are. The engine appears completely stock, and as a result it's easy to service. Fresh Rocket Gold paint on the block and a flashy Super Rocket air cleaner help complete the Oldsmobile look under the hood. And thanks to a factory-style exhaust system, it sounds powerful, yet subdued. An automatic transmission mean's that it's a superlative highway cruiser, and while the ride is smooth and supple, it is far from clumsy when the road starts to twist. Power steering helps you attack turns with ease, and power front disc brakes means stopping this classic is uneventful and calm, exactly how you want it to be. Weld 5-spoke aluminum wheels look good on just about anything, and on this Olds they wear 225/70R15 redlines that look incredible.Beautiful to look at and a joy to drive, this cool Olds combines the best aspects of a restored car with the feel of an original, making it a very appealing package.
