1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass Coupe 1968 Used Automatic
1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass Description
If you like your muscle cars a little more grown up than the usual Chevelles and winged GTOs, then you've probably already considered Oldsmobile. Cars like this 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass offer the same big engine thrills as those other models but with more polish and sophistication. This one also packs a gorgeous interior, a strong-running 455 cubic inch V8, and a subtle, sophisticated look that will set it apart everywhere it goes. For an adult's car, this hardtop has a very elegant look and the burgundy paint is a big part of it. It's older but fairly well done and the color will elicit questions at fueling stops about what color it might be, as onlookers seem to be taken with the big, burgundy coupe. Crisp body lines are a highlight of the 1968 Cutlass, and the sharp crease running along the tops of the fenders make a subtle yet effect styling statement. Finish quality is decent, with a final finish that shines up beautifully and looks great going down the road but it's not so perfect that you'll be afraid to drive it. Oldsmobile designers weren't afraid to use chrome, even on their top performance model, so the bumpers, the grille surround, and side trim are all bright metal that sparkles against the darker paint. This car also has a nice-fitting black vinyl roof that's seldom seen, but now that you've had a look, it really works well, doesn't it? The basic black interior is the jewel in this car's crown, a beautifully finished driver's compartment that shows you why you should own an Oldsmobile instead of a Chevy. Rich materials and handsome pleated patterns make it look far more luxurious and expensive than its price would suggest and the work was done quite recently so it's in excellent condition. The seats and door panels are soft high-quality vinyl and the carpets are new, and the fresh 4-spoke steering wheel looks awesome. The factory gauges cover only the bare minimum, so a set of under-dash auxiliary gauges were installed and there's a factory-installed AM/FM radio just above them; dig those knobs! This car also includes ice cold factory A/C, which still uses R12 for best results. The trunk is outfitted with a correct mat and full-sized spare. You couldn't get a 455 in a 1968 Cutlass, but it fits pretty well. Yanked from a full-sized 1969 Olds, it was rebuilt to stock specs about 5000 miles ago. UP top there's a W30 dual-snorkel air cleaner and HEI ignition, and even in stock form, an Olds big block is a formidable machine. With plenty of torque, moving the big coupe is effortless, and rather than pinning you back with explosive acceleration, this one moves like an electric locomotive with a feeling of inevitability about it. It's also bulletproof reliable, so you shouldn't be afraid to hit the road with this Cutlass. The underside is a bit scruffy but shows no critical issues and nothing is hidden, so there will be no surprises. Long-tube headers feed a Flowmaster dual exhaust system and the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission just shrugs off the power running through it. Color-matched Rallye II wheels look right on just about any Oldsmobile of the period, including this Cutlass, and they wear fresh 225/70/14 blackwall radials for a performance look. We like this car a lot. It's attention-getting without being too flashy and it backs it up with solid performance. There's a lot invested here but the price could be considered a bargain. Call today!
