1949 Oldsmobile Series 76 Convertible Rat Rod, Traditional Hot Rod, Sled, Custom
1949 Oldsmobile Series 76 Description
1949 Oldsmobile Series 76 Convertible, RARE, RARE, RARE... perfect car for restoration, hot rod, or custom treatment.
I have way too many projects and not enough room, and not enough time....soI'm going to sell one of my favorite cars, SORRY BUT... NO TRADES, AND I DON'T NEED ANY HELP SELLING IT!
All original RARE 1949 Oldsmobile Series 76 Convertible. Rare car around 1,700 made with the "BIG SIX" flathead 6 cylinder, hydromatic transmission. NO RUST, one owner. Car does need restoration, but does run, drive and stop.
There are issues that need attention not lying, it's not perfect... but it is complete, all of the trim inside and out is here. The car is pretty straight for the most part it does have a small issue with the drivers side quarter behind the door, it does not effect the door or the way it opens or closes. I got the car running and driving around 9 years ago... I put a new gas tank in, NOS carburetor, rebuilt the brakes and master cylinder, also put on new tires 8 or 9 years ago, they might have a 1,000 miles on them. I also so had a small amount of pinstriping put on the hood and trunk at the Hunnert Car Pile-up. the Original leather on the seats and top is still on the car, but it's old car interior and top. The car sat in a proper dry building from 1964 until 2009 or so. And since I've owned it, it's been is parked and covered in my shop.
I've had the car to the Hunnert Car Pile-Up, Torque Fest, Rust Revival, Des Moines Goodguys... It's a great car and is or perfect candidate for restoration or just leave the patina. Perfect car for air ride, or lowering with proper sized coil springs, as Oldsmobile's were coil spring front and trailing arms with coils on the back already!
The car does have some custom touches that were done by the previous owner... lol... He drove this car in the 60's to high school, and when he graduated in 1964 his parents bought him a new Olds 442 so this car went into a building. the stripes you see on the grill are black tape? also all of the spark plug wires and different control rods under the hood have been wrapped with a plastic black & white type of ribbon/wire almost like bread tie... I've never seen anything like it... lol... it took some time though I can tell you that... anyway the car is what the car is...
It's Very rare you see Chevy's (I even have a Chevy convertible), Buick's and sometimes Pontiac convertibles, but you NEVER see Oldsmobile's... it's pretty cool if I say so myself.
The car runs, stops and drives like an old car.
The engine and transmission is original, I've drove it around town, and to local cruise nights only.
The Good Stuff...
The floors, trunk and frame on the car are nice, there are no patches, and NO RUST.
The trunk shock mounts and trunk floor is very solid. ALSO front fenders doors, hood, trunk lid and quarters are very, very solid with no rust. The car is Very complete... nothing that I know of is missing... which means no looking for parts!
The Bad Stuff...
The driver side quarter behind the door is a little funky, nothing horrible or serious, the door opens/closes and fits okay. The glass has some cracks and fog/bubbles in them. there is no back window. The interior is in ruff/barn find condition not really ripped up, just old. There is no carpet in the car at all. All of the stuff for the hydraulic top is there and hooked up but does not go up and down by it's own power... I've never looked into it or messed with it, I've always just done it by hand. The radiator does leak around the top outlet.
This car not a rust bucket or has it ever been a rust bucket like a lot of these cars can be, it is just a nice old car that sat in a proper dry building until a few years ago.
This car is straight and VERY solid, the body sheet metal seems to be good, except for the few little spots I mentioned.
This car is a perfect candidate to attend to a few things, leave alone and have fun with, or of course restore.
Oh... the last picture is just a vision of what the car could look like if restored... "PRETTY FREAKIN COOL" if you ask me!
I've only seen 2 Series 76 Convertibles on ebay in the last 8 years... they were both non-runners and in worse shape... rusty, missing parts... etc. and both of them brought over $20k with several bidders.
This car is an investment quality, and worth restoring, I think this car is actually a bargain at this price... for as complete, and solid as it is. Oldsmobile's don't come along everday.
I have a clear Illinois title in my name and in my hand for this car.
