This car, being a 1970 model, is the pinnacle of performance from Oldsmobile.
1970 Oldsmobile 442 Description
The 442 was born out of competition between Pontiac and Oldsmobile divisions of GM. The high performance GTO version of the Pontiac LeMans intermediate had proved an unexpected success midway through the 1964 model year. Oldsmobile's hasty response was to beef up their own popular Cutlass, a task given to a team led by performance enthusiast and Olds engineer John Beltz aided by Dale Smith and division Chief Engineer Bob Dorshimer.
1970 was the pinnacle of performance from Oldsmobile. In order to keep up in the horsepower arms-race, General Motors dropped the cap on engine size in 1970, and Oldsmobile responded by making the 455 V8 the standard 442 engine. Output was 365 hp (272 kW) and 500 lb·ft (680 N·m), with a 370 hp (276 kW) variant available with the W30 option.
This great looking matching-numbers 1970 442 is equipped with Rally Pack instrument gauges, tilt steering wheel and an original AM/FM flip-face stereo appropriately connected to front and rear speakers.
The accessories are in full working order right down to the last detail. its original big-block Olds Rocket 455 V8 engine, W-25 outside-air intake, TH400 transmission, and Hurst shifter, it runs and drives wonderfully.
Options include power steering, power front disc brakes, special heavy-duty suspension, front and rear sway bars, and boxed lower rear control arms. It also has side and hood stripes, sport steering wheel, bucket seats and console, raised-letter Goodrich T/R tires on Rally Wheels, matching spare tire, and a 12-bolt posi-traction differential.
Dressed with authentic looking and correct W-30 badging and accessories, this car was not born a W-30, however, it shows the finesse and good looks of one.
