1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass CUTLASS SUPREME Description

Car came from an estate and there is not much documentation or history. Basic story - the car came from Florida and was professionally restored about five years ago. Although it has a mild mannered appearance, it is definitely a Muscle Car. This is one of the best performance cars I have owned in the past 30 years. Engine and Drivetrain: Original 350 replaced with an Olds 455 (396021 F Block, G Heads). Whoever built this motor knew how to maximize Olds performance. It has an aluminum Offenhaueser "Sonic" intake, Holley carburetor, stainless headers with aluminized dual exhaust system, MSD ignition system, and oversize aluminum radiator. It has a slightly “lopey” idle and I suspect it has a W-30 grind camshaft. It has great throttle response and makes tremendous power on takeoff, you will have no trouble scaring your passengers. The T400 chirps the tires on upshifts and I believe it has a mild shift kit. The original fan was replaced with a thermostatically controlled electric fan that works perfectly.Factory power front disc brakes. The rear end is a 10 bolt positraction that I am 95% convinced is a 3:42 ratio. (Driveshaft yoke rotatesabout 3.4 times per fullwheel revolution). Previous owner painted the center section silver, and has an aluminum W-27 cover. I sanded most of the passenger side axle tube looking for a factory code. Unfortunately the housing had surface rust and some pitting. There appears to be a (corroded?) T and a clear M. Olds literature shows the TM code positractions had 3:42 ratios and were listed with W-30’s. T is poorly preserved, look at photo and decide for yourself. If TM this is aRARE posi. All under-hood factory AC partsare absent and missing. Body & Paint: Excellent body overall. I believe the front fenders arereproductions (black primer on bottom, zero rust) – or possiblyNOS. The trunk lid appears to be a new reproduction (undrilled for letters or numbers). Doors are excellent. I cannot find any evidence of rust repair in the quarters or welded seams from installing quarter skins. The quality of panel fit is excellent. Somebody spent a LOT of time block sanding prior to paint to get everything this straight; clear coat paint is polished to a mirror finish. I would characterize this as show car paint with VERY few tiny chips from use. The floors and trunk are solid. The underside consists of a mixture of black paint, dirt, and some surface rust. Bumpers appear recently rechromed. Interior and Top: Very nice dark blue bench seat and door panels. Carpet looks new. There is about a 2 inch crack in the dash pad The top has a very good appearance but does show some slight wear and scuffing. Repairs or Needs: All lights, speedometer, turn signals work. Horn does not . Parking brake cable needs adjusting. No top boot or jack. Spare tire is an SS II wheel. AM FM radio is an old Kenwood system with power amp in the trunk that works great. Radio knobs are missing. Overall this car feels like a well-tuned 442 car with tremendous power. I would guess previous owners spent over $25K to upgrade and restore to this condition. Very trouble free and draws a crowd. Car is sold as is and no warranty. Actual mileage isunknown. Car can be viewed evenings by appt. Thanks
