If you’re looking for a car to “Take It on the Run” or when it’s “Time for You to Fly,” take a look at this 1930 REO Flying Cloud, proudly presented by MotoeXotica Classic Cars. This timeless classic has been updated with a modern power plant to make it worthy of driving at today’s highway speeds.

Dressed in Malaga Maroon with an Atoka Cream belt and tan accents, the car’s paint and trim are in very good overall condition, with minor blemishes visible only upon close inspection. The car’s glass panes are also in very good order, intact and clear. The car’s lights are in good shape, with fog lights perched above the front bumper and cowl lights in addition to the headlights. This ode to classic yesteryear rolls on radial tires, P235/75R15, surrounding cream-colored wire wheels with REO center caps. The car’s body panels are straight and solid, including the rubberized roof and so-called “suicide” rear doors. The engine bay is tidy, the bumpers are in good shape and a wooden trunk in the rear provides storage for driver and passengers. Driver convenience features include power steering and power front disc brakes.

An all-Mopar powertrain replaces the car’s original motor, transmission and rear end. It now has a 318 CID V-8 with dual exhausts, a 727 three-speed automatic transmission and a Chrysler rear end.

Inside, The car’s gray seats are in very good condition, as is the matching carpet and headliner. Wood accents abound inside, over the dashboard and surrounding all of the side windows. The instrument panel is in very good order, complete with a full array of gauges from Classic Instruments, including a working clock. A modern, three-spoke wheel with tilting column, possibly from an American Motors vehicle, has replaced the original steering wheel. The door panels are in excellent condition while the mirror glass and gearshift lever are in good order. Capping off the interior is a Pioneer AM/FM stereo with CD player and two speakers in the rear. Currently the horn and fuel gauge are inoperable.

The REO Motor Car Company was a Lansing, Michigan-based company that produced automobiles and trucks from 1905 to 1975. At one point the company also manufactured buses on its truck platforms and even has a rock band named after them : REO Speed Wagon!

Ransom E. Olds was an entrepreneur who founded multiple companies in the automobile industry. In 1897 Olds founded the Olds Motor Vehicle Company (later, as Oldsmobile, to become a part of General Motors). In 1905 Olds left Oldsmobile and established a new company, REO Motor Car Company, in Lansing, Michigan. Olds had 52 percent of the stock and the titles of president and general manager. To ensure a reliable supply of parts, he organized a number of subsidiary firms like the National Coil Company, the Michigan Screw Company, and the Atlas Drop Forge Company.

Originally the company was to be called “R. E. Olds Motor Car Company,” but the owner of Olds’ previous company, then called Olds Motor Works, objected and threatened legal action on the grounds of likely confusion of names by consumers. Olds then changed the name to his initials.

The Flying Cloud was the first car to use Lockheed’s new hydraulic internal expanding brake system and featured styling by Fabio Segardi. While Ned Jordan is credited with changing the way advertising was written with his “Somewhere West of Laramie” ads for his Jordan Playboy, Reo’s Flying Cloud—a name that provoked evocative images of speed and lightness—changed the way automobiles would be named in the future. It has a 115″ wheelbase. The final REO model of 1936 was a Flying Cloud.

Competition to this REO in 1930 included Auburn’s 125, Cadillac’s V-16, Duesenberg’s SJ Phaeton, Imperial’s Limousine, Lincoln’s L-series Limousine and Marmon’s Series 16.

This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
