1937 British, Railton Straight Eight Stratton Saloon, 129" LWB (long-wheel-base). This car was registered FPL. 106 in the UK and has an original body built by Coachcraft Ltd. of London, one of Railton Car's preferred coachbuilders. Note: (Only twelve cars were built to this design and this car is one of the two known remaining examples).
There is a touch of class in the beautiful and exquisite use of burl wood throughout the interior. The comfortable cream leather interior is tastefully piped in brown trim. The carpets are of high quality and the coachwork is finished in black with a black leatherette roof, all restored to a high standard.
Railton Cars used the powerful Hudson 8 cylinder, side valve 4168cc engine and chassis, with modified suspension and other changes to suit British tastes, but retained the three speed gearbox. This car retains its original polished aluminium engine cover designed to make the engine look as if it was an overhead valve design, despite being an easy to maintain side valve. A high ratio 3.5:I rear axle pinion and gear has been fitted, making the car a 'great cruiser'. Much of the engine rebuild and other major work was carried out by Barry Briskman, a recognised expert in high point restorations.
FPL 106 is recognised by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) as a 'Full Classic'. This rare and distinctive Railton, in 'mint condition', will not disappoint as it has been carefully maintained, preserved and prepared to travel long miles in safety, comfort and style! It also has the benefit ofhydraulic brakes and 12 volt electrics. The steering is unusually light for a car of this size and weight.
