1968 Pontiac Firebird Description

After several years of enjoyment, I have decided to sell my 1968 Firebird 400 convertible.

This is a PHS documented 400 convertible with AC making it pretty rare. When I purchased this car it was already converted to non air. It was an older restoration that was showing its age, so I had it freshened up a bit. I had the car stripped and repainted in the original solar red. I had new weather stripping and a convertible top installed. I also had the seats recovered and had the front brakes converted to disk. The engine compartment I left alone because I couldn’t justify pulling the motor to detail everything.

As you can see the car presents well and it runs smooth and handles the road well. I take this car out mainly on weekends when weather permits, it’s never left me stranded and is a very respectable cruiser.

The engine is not original to the car, but it does have the higher horsepower YS code Gto short block, while I believe most of the top end of the motor is original.

Now if your critical, I’m sure you can find several minor things that are not perfect on this car. While thesethings are not important to me as my intent was to drive and enjoy this car, I want to make sure the new owner knows about them because they may be important to him or her.
So here it goes: most everything seems to work including the power top. The only electronic thing I noticed that did not work is the right turn signal indicator in the dash - it does not light up. The radio turns on, but I can’t hear anything and may need thespeaker connected or a new one. The dash and kick panels have some minor cosmetic flaws and may be repaired or repainted depending on how far you want to go. It does drip a little fluid, I think it’s tranny fluid and may need the gasket snugged up. Tranny occasionally shifts a little slow when it downshifts and has been that way since I owned it and shifts normally the majority of the time. Heater switch works but only on one speed. Windows could use final adjustment to close better. I chipped a small part of the edge of the driver's side glass but it is hardly noticeable. Ebrake is not connected. There is a provision on the counsel for a clock. I have the clock, but it needs to be restored. It will go with the car. I also noticed a couple of the rubber bumpers are missing and there are no window washer squirter nozzles. That’s about all I can think of that may need to be addressed. The car really is a joy to look at and drive.

I priced the car for a quick sale and considering it may need some TLC depending on the new owners perspective. I think it’s a great value based on what I’ve seen similar cars sell for. You don’t see many straight and rust free 400 convertibles anymore, especially one that you can just get in and go.

Please look closely at the pictures as I think it best presents the overall condition. Please ask any questions prior to your purchase as it is being sold as is. If you would like to inspect the car I would be happy to accommodate you.

$200 deposit required immediately after a sale is accepted. Balance due via wire transfer, cashiers check or cash within 10 days. Vehicle must be picked up within 14 days. I can work with your carrier.

Thank you for your interest.
