1966 912, VERY Rare Original Color & Options, Matching #'s, Very Solid Project
1966 Porsche 912 Description
You're viewing my rare and highly optioned 1966 (12/29/65 build date) short wheelbase Porsche 912 coupe. This car was originally delivered in very rare Golf Blue paint code 6603 over beige (almost white) leather interior (seats, dash and door panels are still the original leather, not vinyl!). The car was sold new in Spartanburg, SC and has spent its entire life in SC and NC. The car was painted red many years ago, but it really should be stripped and taken back to its beautiful original color! The last pic shows what it would look like restored back to original.
The car overall is very solid. The original front pan is exceptional and floors/longitudinals are very solid with just a few small spots that need minor attention. Rockers, doors, rear deck lid are excellent. The hood has some bubbling and paint peeling and will need some attention but can be saved. All glass is original and in great shape. Brightwork around the doors and windows is good. Rubber seals around quarter windows and deco trim is newer. Rear grill is in excellent condition. Original chrome bumper over-riders and windshield wipers are in front trunk, along with the original spare and very nice tool kit.
The car was built with several rare options (see pic of factory Kardex sheet):
* First off, the color 6603 Golf Blue is quite rare* Beige (almost white) leather is rare* Webasto heater* Seatback mounted headrests (headrests are missing but all mounting hardware is present)* Tinted glass* Fog Lights (missing)* Rear window wiper (very rare option, missing motor and wiper arm)* Blaupunkt radio with speaker and antenna signal knob* Chrome wheels with chrome caps, Porsche logos (all 5 rims are 12/65 date coded)* Talbot mirrors (fender mounted, very rare option, missing)* Clock...andthe rarest of all...* VDO temperature gauge for outside temp! EXTREMELY RARE factory installed gauge! (see pic)
The car is still all matching numbers confirmed with the Kardex sheet (engine and tranny are both original to the car). Still has its original Koni shocks! Not listed on the Kardex, but original to the car, are heavy duty front lower control arms. Another very rare option.
This is not your run of the mill old rusty 912. This is going to be a very special and stunning car when restored, and an excellent investment opportunity! This is a rare chance to buy an excellent car to restore that's very original, highly optioned, and not a rusty mess.
The motor has been sitting a few years and is not running. I'm sure it will need a rebuild. The car "should" be restored back to its stunning original color, but with some work, it could be enjoyed as is once the motor and brakes, etc have been gone thru and hood repainted. I really would love to restore her for myself but I'm in the middle of restoring my 1970 911E (factory Signal Orange) and between that and my wife wanting to pay off our river house, this must find a new home. As you can see I have several other 911's (a few of them not pictured, as well as two 928S's, a 240Z and a Lancia Scorpion. I'm thinning the herd to pay off this river house. Happy wife = happy life.
I will sell to overseas buyers. Shipping is your responsibility, but I will gladly assist your transport company with scheduling pickup, etc. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding, and have your finances in order.
I require a $500 PayPal deposit immediately following the auction, and final balance is to be bank wired within 3 business days. No exceptions! Not interested in any trades. Clean clear title is in my name and in my possession. The car is at my river home in Conway, SC. Please only bid if a serious buyer. Thanks for looking and happy bidding. I will end the auction early for the right price.
