94 Saturn SC2 2 door converted to electric power.
This car was converted from gasoline to electric power in 2009. It is a 72 volt system with 12-- 12 volt deep charge batteries powering an 8 inch diameter DC shunt (sepex) electric motor. The batteries were purchased in 2009 and have lost most of their ability to hold a charge--they need to be replaced. The computer that controls the speed of the motor needs to be rebuilt. It is a Curtis model 1244-6551, rated at 80 volts and 500 amps. Also, the tires need to be replaced and the power steering and power brakes are not installed.
I have put on over 500 miles driving electrically in this car and have driven over 25 miles between charges. The top speed is 67 miles per hour.
Over $8,000 and a year and a half of labor have gone into this project. Using the on-board charger, the batteries can be fully charged overnight, costing less than a dollar.
This car has not been driven for the last 7 years but has been stored in a garage. I have not gotten it running because of money. The title is from Minnesota and it says "Flood Damaged." I have not noticed anything water damaged except the cables and catches for the trunk remote release and the gas cap release which is now the location of the charger electric plug. Both release mechanisms have been repaired.
This is a project car that requires automotive and electrical skills to make it work. I will supply you with my notes, drawings and useful web sites and references. Your work on this car will give you a nice practical car and the joy that you brought a car back to life.
