1947 Other Makes Description

The Car; A non-chopped Henry Steel Fordor Sedan and frame with fiberglass fenders. 1930 Model A Real-deal old school build from donor cars and talent. Perfect stance Street Rod that has proven the test of time and will be enjoyed for many years to come. Originally built with a 283 / Powerglide I recently upgraded to a mildly built (385hp) naturally aspirated 350/350 combination (both that were professionally built and tested). Suspension is a straight front axle from a mid-30s Ford with late 50’s GM spindles and the rear a late 50’s front loader Chevy with super long trailing arms and air shocks, both axles are on transverse leafs and all four corners have big GM power assisted drum brakes. Steering is from a 66 Chevy II and is power assisted with a tilt column. At the motor swap a new Modine radiator, Pertronix Electronic Ignition, Jegs ceramic coated headers, Summit gear reduction starter and of course all the normal bolt-ons such as fuel and water pumps, etc. were replaced.

The Truck; A ’47 Ford COE non-chopped cab on a ’84 Chevy P30 motorhome 12,500gvwr Chassis with a stock 454 (except for the Hedman Headers) / Turbo 400 combination currently with just below 100,000 miles (true miles). Equipped with Hydroboost assist Power Steering and Power Brakes, Tilt Wheel, Air Ride / Slider Peterbilt Seats, Dash Operated Front and Rear Air (assist) Bags, 120psi Viair air pump and 7.5 gal tank, Two Deep Cell Batteries, KYB shocks, Alpine Bluetooth stereo, SS fuel tank, huge Aluminum Radiator, 12,000lb Wench, 5,000lb Aluminum Ramps (bed is 7' 2" wide and 16' long), new 8ply Firestones on rear and like new Coopers on the front. The cab is fully insulated and skinned in .20gauge metal (rather the original cardboard), has electric wipers w/washers, full instruments and removable tung and groove knotty oak floor panels for motor access. The chassis’ length has not been altered (Stretched or Shortened) still maintains all of the factory add-ons; Massive Anti-Sway Bars, Steering Stabilizers, Charcoal Evap. Canister, etc).

Both Car and Truck Run and Drive fine, there are no unknown noises, smells, leaks, vibrations, they do not overheat smoke, windows and doors close/function as designed (front windshields on the truck are currently sealed for Washington’s rain) and both are turn-key ready to work or show. I have driven the truck across the country a number of times in the past 20+years (as both a Motor Home and as a Ramp Truck) and the car to many (Many) shows some 4+ hours away in the past Ten+ years without a hint of trouble or problem. The car “Shows and Shines” with the best of them but the new motor/trans combination is possibly a bit too fast for a guy my age? The truck is registered as a ’47 and is also very familiar with shows and is quite the “Head Turner” too. (expect to make a lot of new friends wherever you go).Added Thought; The truck is truly the best of both worlds; it’s an “In your face” Street Rod Hauler-Stand-out Rat/Antique/Unique Ramp Truck, yet still a turn-key easy to Drive, Super Dependable, Heavy Hauler Work Truck (that is the way I built it).

Neither are without imperfections; the car shows some age with a paint chip here and there (4 in total I believe), spider cracks in the fenders appear with fresh wax, there’s a little blistering paint in the front corner of the cab and Passenger side hood (both the size of maybe a silver dollar and some paint chipped off at the center hinge on the hood but for a 20+year paint job the luster/shine is still in the top 10 percental for paint quality at almost any show. The Truck probably could stand a re-primer for a less Rat Rod appearance, keeping in mind; paint is currently not an option without at least 20-30 hours finish work on the body. That’s about it?
