1972 Coupe low milage
1972 Mercury Comet Description
I bought this car about 2 years ago as I was convinced it was low mileage car. The things leading me to believe this are: the spare was a bias ply tire in the style of the seventies. There was a Highway Patrol inspection sticker on the passenger side windshield expiring in 1974 (see photo). I remember the joke we told in the seventies: the later you were for work the more apt you were to encounter one of the random inspections. After you got a sticker at future inspections stops they would wave you thru. The factory interior is in the car with little wear to the seats, headliner and carpet. There are 2 small tears in the headliner about the size of the palm of your hand. It was running rough so I had the plugs replaced and the carb rebuilt and then it ran excellent. The factory AM radio works good. I had the front suspention rebuilt and the rear leaf springs re-arc'd. The car was in a minor front end collision and repair had been started using a hood, grille and bumper from a Maverick. This is a cleaner look so I did not go back to the Comet snout. I had the car painted and the bumpers re-plated. I had the A/C repaired replacing the condenser, drier and vacuum canister. The compressor and hoses were useable. I added new tires. The car is also for sale locally so am reserving the right to end the auction early.
