1929 Other Makes Coupe COUPE Description

1929 DURANT MODEL 60 SERIES 2 COUPE

Up for sale is a great piece of American automobile history – a 1929 Durant Model 60 Series 2 Coupe. This car is complete right down to the hub caps, tail light and radiator cap and would make a solid foundation for a complete restoration or a great slate for a very unique street rod! For those of you unfamiliar with Durant Motors, the company was founded in 1921 by William Durant, the former CEO of General Motors. The company produced cars from 1921 through 1926 before closing the plant briefly to retool for a model change in 1928 – no Durant automobiles were produced in 1927. There was another slight design change in 1929. For more information, visit www.durantmotors.com. This coupe was built in Lansing, MI. It is my intention to describe this car in as great detail as possible, but I strongly urge you to look at all the pictures with this listing and please feel welcome to contact me directly with any questions you may have. You may send me a message through the eBay message board or give me a call: Chad @ 1-406-403-6921. The vehicle comes with a clear Montana Title and a notarized Bill of Sale on the official Montana Department of Motor Vehicle form.

BODY/SHEET METAL/TRIM: Again, as I state above, this car is complete, missing only one or two minor pieces. The body pieces to form the top – header above the windshield, windshield frame w/ wiper, corner pieces, window trim, etc. – are all there and can be seen in some of the pictures. Although the car needs a complete wood kit, much of the original wood is still there, intact and usable for patterns. The sheet metal is very solid and rust is VERY MINIMAL. In fact, I cannot find an area that is in need of anything more than minor repair. It has minor dents and dings, but these are all VERY REPAIRABLE. The quarter panels, doors, cowl, fenders, splash aprons, trunk lid and hood are all in very good shape. The center hinge on the hood is in need of repair. The running boards were originally made of wood and these are in need or replacing. The floor of the passenger compartment and of the trunk area are in good condition. The frame and undercarriage are solid and complete. All trim pieces are there right down to the hub caps for each wheel, the radiator cap, the tail light and the optional cowl lights (although one cowl light bracket is broken). The headlight are also intact. I took a close-up photo of the grille – this thing is in amazing shape!! The gas tank and spare tire carrier are also included and in great shape. The rear bumper is there, but the front bumper is missing.

INTERIOR/GLASS: The interior of this car is also amazingly complete right down to some of the original clothe still on the seat and the rear window shade! All the seat springs are there and seem to be unbroken. The dash/gauge cluster is there and complete. The door handle and window cranks are all there except one. The windshield and back glass are included and, as I recall, are in good condition. All the glass is flat, though, and is easily cut at your local automotive glass shop.

ENGINE/TRANMISSION/REAR END: The drive train for this car is complete from the honeycomb radiator all the way to the rear end. The engine is the Durant 6CYL and is complete, but the up-draft carburetor is broken. I know nothing of the condition of the engine other than it is complete. The radiator looks to be in good condition. The transmission is complete. I know nothing of its condition other than it shifts in an out of gear and turns freely in neutral. The drive line and rear end are also there and complete. I know nothing of their condition either, except that it rolls freely in neutral. All four wooden-spoke wheels are there complete with their hubcaps. The rubber is useless and will be cut off for transport.

Again, it is my intention to be as forthcoming with the condition of this car as possible – it is VERY COMPLETE, but in need of total restoration. This vehicle comes with a clear Montana Title and a notarized Bill of Sale. No warranty/guarantee – written or implied – exists with this vehicle and it is being sold in “as-is/where-is” condition. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer. Payment in full must be received before this vehicle will be released for transport. Vehicle must be removed for transport within 30 days of sale unless prior arrangements are made or may be subject to storage fees. Thanks for your interest – good luck in your bidding!!
