With a countrywide recession looming, Packard Motor Car Company was looking to keep a large portion of its luxury buyers in their showrooms for 1937. This lead to the introduction of the new Model 115C that year fitted with a 6-cylinder engine. While the rest of their Senior line-up continued to be produced by skilled craftsmen in limited quantities, it was fair to say Packard entered a mass production mode for supplying these popular, new 115C sedans. As for the larger 139” wheelbase Twelve models, only 1,286 units would be crafted in various body styles. And some new elements for these exclusive, luxury vehicles for 1937 would be the introduction of a fully independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes. These two improvements now made for one of the sought after Packard touring models among driver enthusiast today!
We are delighted to have on our showroom this 1937 Packard Twelve 1507 Club Sedan finished in gorgeous Packard Blue over stunning Gray Cloth interior! Under the hood lies the original, ever-faithful 473ci twelve cylinder engine, mated to a floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. Options are plentiful on this fully frame off restored example and include dual side mounted spares with steel covers & pedestal type mirrors, rear luggage rack, rare windshield & rear window chrome trim, bumper guards, running board lamps, and BF Goodrich Silvertown 8.25-16 4-ply wide whitewall tires! Inside, you will find a rare Packard 3833 Deluxe Radio with bass amplifier & tone control along with factory speaker, Deluxe heater with windshield defroster, wood grained dash & banjo steering wheel, real wood window moldings, dual rear vanities with correct jeweled lighters in place, rear assist handles, reading lamps, and more!
This example hails from the skilled hands of the California based restoration house known as Hill & Vaughn. Highly respected for producing finished cars welcomed at Pebble Beach and other exclusive show fields, this Packard Club Sedan we have was treated to a frame off restoration completed many years ago. According to the restorer, it maintains all of its original body wood structure and factory date-coded 1937 drivetrain, Stromberg EE-3 carburetor, Auto-Lite 6-volt charging system, distributor, coil tray, & voltage regulator; Cormorant hood ornament, and headlight lenses. The exterior paint continues to show wonderfully, as does the entire interior! As with any properly executed restoration, it is very difficult to criticize today, but will show just minor signs that the previous owners did enjoy this Packard on the open road. The running board mats have some visible deterioration, as well as the lower portions of the engine side covers have some touch-ups where it has been opened and closed over the years. These areas are well hidden behind the side mounted spares.
Any automotive collector will admit that any vehicle exercised regularly will always prove to be the best collectible car to enjoy. This Twelve is no exception to that rule. It continues to start with ease, run brilliantly quiet & smooth, and motivate down the road without any fuss. It has been fitted with a stainless steel gas tank and high speed rear gears better suited for interstate travel and long range touring events. We would also like to point out it has been fitted with a period Purolator oil filtration system and visible radiator hose screens for added assurance. This Club Sedan represents a rare few available anywhere in the world, and is acknowledged as a CCCA Full Classic for good reason. It is the ultimate Packard Club Sedan to own!
