1928 Packard Phaeton 533 Description

1928 was a unique year for Packard and more specifically the Model 533. The fifth series Packard would be the last six-cylinder Packard built until 1937 when the motor was reintroduced. The phaeton was a new production body for 1928 and was built on the longer wheelbase of 133 inches. This 1928 Model 533 was a combination of the last year for the six cylinder and the first year of the Phaeton body. Few six cylinder cars were produced in 1928 since most buyers were opting for the larger 8 cylinder. This particular car is a wonderful example of 1928 Packard Model 533 Phaeton. Having gone through a complete restoration in 1985, he car has been well cared for since, eing with only two owners; the last being since 1988 here in St. Louis. With its dual side mounts, ire wheels full weather kit and optional second windshield that was commonly installed by Packard dealers to make the car resemble the more expensive dual cowl cars the car is striking. This is an older restoration that does show some minor signs of age. There is some minor cracking to the lacquer paint on the front doors as well as to the driver’s side rear door. The paint on the fenders looks very good with no major spots of cracking, hips or scratches. The chrome and stainless trim on the car all looks good with on major spots of pitting or damage. Just some very minor pitting around the windshield and mirrors. The body is extremely solid with no signs of previous damage. All wood is solid and shows no signs of rot. The soft top is new and in wonderful condition. The top goes up and down with no problems and comes with a complete set of side curtains. Inside, he reupholstered seats are in great condition with no major wear showing. The wood dash is extremely solid with no cracking showing. Gauges are all in good working order as well as all lights and wipers. Within the last year, he car went through a freshening up. During this, hey made sure all components worked, lushed the fuel tank and rebuilt the carb. In the rear, he optional fold down windshield looks great and gives the car a dual cowl look. The car also comes with a full set of side curtains. The inline 6 cylinder runs great and starts with ease. The clutch and three speed manual transmission performs with ease. No slipping of the clutch and shifts are done with no problems. The engine compartment is nicely finished and shows no leaking. The underside of the car is extremely solid as well as all of the wood. New white wall bias ply tires are wrapped around painted wire wheels. This is a previous AACA National 1st place winner and is said to be 1 of only 2 surviving Model 533’s in this body style. This car still presents itself in show quality and drives wonderfully. It would make a great addition to any collection and is a wonderful tourer or an excellent base for a full blown concourse restoration. VIN number is 154176 and the current mileage shows 655.
This car is being sold out of a local private collection. Rest assured this is an absolutely gorgeous car with few flaws from tip to tail which we have tried to picture. We welcome any and all inspections and viewing.
