What a wonderful car. “Just ask the man that owns one” was the slogan used by Packard back in the golden age of automobiles. Very few Packard we’re produced in 1934 due to the depression. A little over 5000 units of all body styles that year. The following year 1935 came the mass produced 120 which saved Packard.
This 1934 703 1100 sedan is a senior model hand crafted by the artisans from Detroit Michigan. Absolutely a no rust vehicle that has always been stored inside in the dry Utah air. It was restored in the 80’s. The engine is a numbers matching 320 cubic inch straight eight has 1000 miles on it since rebuild and runs very smooth. An electric fuel pump was added for ease of starting. The fuel tank was boiled and resealed and the radiator was gone through. It runs very cool. The radiator louvres open automatically. I recently went on a 50 mile trip and it ran like a top. It’s not geared for freeway speeds but 45-55 mph is perfect. Shifts like it should. Good clutch. Brakes work great. (It has 4 different brake settings that work). Also has different ride settings and a bijor automatic lubrication system. It has a nice interior. Needs new carpet.
The paint is very presentable. It has a few cracks and scratches. I believe it is single stage lacquer. Not a concourse paint job but a “6 footer”. I have had it at a lot of car shows and it always does well. Very good chrome. It’s a very beautiful and good running classic. Most 1934 Packard selling these days are north of $100,000 but this was the entry level Packard in its day. Still very expensive considering it was in the heart of the depression. So this is a good way to get what I believe to be the most desirable year without breaking the bank.
These are the things that don’t work. I doesn’t have the guts under the horn button(so no horn), it needs new surgical tubing for the wipers (vacuum leak), passenger side window cracked (company makes exact replacement windows for $70), missing front bumper attachment end cap, has 1940’s WDO carb. (Much less finicky and it has been rebuilt). I want to be up front as possible. It’s a wonderful car that has been well maintained. But has with any old car it is being sold as is. I can help load when shipped but shipping is at buyers expense. Call if you have any questions 801-414-7655. Good luck bidding!
