1939 Packard Henney Nu 3 way Hearse
You are viewing a nice solid professionally restored as original Hearse. One of only two commissioned and built Model 1705 Super 8 with Packard 12 suspension. It is the only one known to exist in the world today. This Packard was a special order built model for an upscale funeral home in Virginia with the build overseen by Mr. Henney himself. It was to be used for very upscale funerals of the day. It was a very expensive special order Hearse back in the day. Super rare and professionally restored finished in 2012 with 12 years to fully restore this beauty. Only 1K miles driven since completed, 250K spent on this very detailed restoration. Always stored indoors with the restoration as completely stock in every detail. An article written on the Hearse ran in the Wall Street Journal Sept 26th 2018. All other Packard Hearse built in 39 were 120 models, which were considerably different, smaller and much lower cost. The restoration was a very hi end body off complete restoration of every part, nut and bolt. Very nicely presented. Runs and drives excellent.
Please read on for more particulars of the car:
Body/Paint: All steel with extensive body work. Very nice and straight body. Paint is black base/clear and very flat. Shows very well. Fender spare covers are not for spare tires. They were designed by Henney for church trunk storage, both sides. Very rare and difficult items to find.
Interior: The interior is fully restored as original using the same color as original. Shows really nice with every detail addressed. Hydraulic rear levers adjust the vehicle to be flat while on uneven ground in a cemetery. Bucket fronts seats as original to move forward providing room for the Nu 3 way system allowing the casket table to swivel so the casket can be removed from the back as well as both sides.
Running Gear: Super 8 flat eight cylinder total rebuilt. Stock transmission and rear end fully restored.
Suspension: Packard 12 front suspension and Packard 8 rear suspension.
Bright work: All restored and beautiful.
Glass: All replaced
Exhaust: NOS muffler used with exhaust as stock.
Brakes: Packard 12 brakes all restored
Wheels/Tires: Packard 12 with stock tires. No spare.
Summary: This hearse represents a very special piece of automotive history. The hearse belongs in a museum or in a very special private Packard collection since it is the only one known to exist.
