1948 Packard Eight DeLuxe
1948 Packard Deluxe Eight Description
Hi All!
Life is pushing me to sell my beautiful original 1948 Packard Eight Deluxe. This car is all original except for the engine, which is still the same size but from a 1949, that was replaced due to a bad manufacturing batch from 1948.
Most of the smaller trim pieces were removed from the previous owner so they could paint it, which they never got around too. I have all those parts and more in storage including: 2 extra grills, new glass for the windows and wing windows, all the small chrome trim, and all the rest. The seats are original underneath the seat covers, the headliner was replaced within a decade and is still holding very well, and the door panels are in excellent shape except one of the front has about a 2 inch tear that has been there since I've owned the car.
The car is drivable, but I would not recommend driving it home because I'v only taken it around locally, within 15 miles. The car starts, stops, turns, and drives very well and all if the lights function except the reverse light, which needs to be reconnected in the trunk. I have taken the car in a parade/cruise night and it never overheated during the 2 hours of putting around. The Fuel gauge and temperature gauges do not function and have not since I've owned the car. I use an infrared thermometer to check the engine block temp as I drive and it sits well around 190F during warm weather. As expected the temp rises and falls with slower/faster driving and the weather outside.
The main problems with the car are that the water pump has recently started making noise and should be replaced and that the fuel pump leaks a little while being primed by an assist pump I installed. (So after sitting for a while, you just run the pump for about 30 seconds instead of getting under the hood or killing the battery). Both of these parts are less than $200 each from Kanter Auto Parts' Packard division.
This car is great to drive and turns heads everywhere I go. I know that I won't be able to drive the car and keep it on the road as I believe all cars should be so I need to pass the torch to someone else. If you have any questions, message me through eBay and I'll answer as soon as I see them. You'll fall in love with this sweet old car and it'll be everything a great Post-War Packard should be when you buy it.
