Continuing to epitomize Americas fine-car market during the early 1930s, Packards Eleventh Series models continue to rank among the companys finest today. Debuted in August 1933, they featured a wide range of handsomely styled bodies combining Raymond Dietrichs foundational design work and masterfully streamlined flourishes contributed by award-winning designer Alexis de Sakhnoffsky. Beautifully skirted fenders and V-shaped radiator grilles enhanced the style and grace of the Eleventh Series Packard Models and numerous mechanical updates delivered greater ease of operation than ever before. Positioned between the Eight and Twelve lines in Packards model hierarchy, the Super Eight was offered in three versions: Model 1103 on the 134-7/8 wheelbase, Model 1104 on the 141-7/8 wheelbase chassis and Model 1105 on the 146-7/8 wheelbase length. Ample power was delivered by Packards 385 CI inline eight-cylinder engine developing 145 BHP. Just 1,920 Super Eights of all body styles were built in all for the 1934 Eleventh Series.
This 1934 Packard Super Eight Model 1104 5-Passenger Phaeton is a splendid example, having been formerly owned by a noted collector of CCCA Full Classic motorcars. Continuing to benefit handsomely from a restoration that helped it garner CCCA Senior National and Premier Awards, the Packard remains highly attractive and collector-worthy throughout. Featuring handsome Navy Blue paint over Blue leather upholstery, this Super Eight is complemented by a Tan canvas folding top with chrome plated top bows. Other highlights include dual side mounted spare tires with chrome mirrors, a drivers side accessory spotlight, a rear luggage rack and a windscreen for rear passengers. A rich burled walnut veneer dashboard houses the Super Eights instruments and desirable Waltham 8-Day clock. As knowledgeable collectors agree, the Eleventh Series Packard Super Eights rank among the companys best and most important models.
