1972 Plymouth Road Runner Description

You are bidding on a 1972 Plymouth Roadrunnerthat has a 2nd Gen 572 Hemi, Tremec 5 Speed and aMoiser Dana 60.
The story behind this car is a long one but i'll try to keep it brief. This 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner was ordered with a 400c.i.Big Block, an A833 23 spline 4 speed and 8.75 with 3.23 sureGrip rear. Bought new by the current owner in 1972, this isone of the few remaining "original owner" Mopar MuscleCars still in existence.
The Roadrunner was driven daily and street raced quiteoften throughout the 1970's and very early 80's.Needing work, it was retired to a barn and did not seedaylight again until early 2007 when it was pulled fromits slumber by the owner and his wife.As a retirement gift to her husband, she wanted to havethe Roadrunner restored to its former glory so her husbandso he could re-live his glory years and do a little"Street Terrorizing!"
The problem with returning a well used 1972 anything toits former glory after sitting in a shed for 30+ years is theamount of sheetmetal that faired less than well in thecentral Illinois climate. Thank goodness for AMDreplacement sheetmetal, rust free sheetmetal from outwest and NOS parts.Combine all three and you get a perfect rust free body, framerails and x-members. Add in Torque Boxes andSubframe Connectors to make it super stiff then paintthe whole thing top to bottom in PPG base clear.(Underside is painted and cleared)
The entire suspension was completely rebuilt and SuperStock Springs were added in the rear with air shocks inback to keep with that proper 70's theme.
The bumpers were sent out for re-chroming, while thegrille and other exterior trim was cleaned up, polishedand painted and put back on the car. The owner addedhand painted Roadrunners on the quarter panels andon the decklid in the factory locations with a bit moreattitude than the originals.
The interior was completely re-done with ACC,Legendary, R.E.M. and Vintage Air among others tomake the interior look as good as it did in 1972. Thegauge cluster was sent out to be rebuilt to have accuratereadings on all of the Elephants vitals and still retainthe stock appearance. Aside from the 5 speed patternand "Day 2" under dash Tachometer, you would neverknow the kind of power lurking under your right foot!
Speaking of Power and Elephants... The owner couldn'tget a 426 Hemi in 1972 when he ordered his Roadrunner,so this go round he wanted to be sure he checked off thebox that said HEMI. But not any old Hemi... He had tohave the most powerful Naturally Aspirated Hemi thatIndy Cylinder Heads offered... And then had them giveit more!!!The 572c.i. HEMI 800+hp!!!!

Extensive valve work and full race porting onheads for 800+ HP

This Beast of an engine needed to be able to cruise onthe street, perform at the race track and handle a Dynowithout overheating so a Griffin cross-flow Aluminumradiator was sourced. With all the Go-Fast Goodies, what good is it if you cant kick on the AC whileBanging gears or cruising 80+MPH on the interstate!?!?The Vintage AC system blows ice cold on the hottestdays and utilizes the factory controller in the originallocation in the cluster.
This Roadrunner was built to drive so the owner addeda Tremec 5 speed built to handle 800+ hp. The owneropted to keep the original Hurst Pistol Grip shift leverwith original grips and the original steering wheel becausethose are the parts he was in contact with the most andthat didn't necessitate replacing. Plus, it means somethingthat this steering wheel was being tightly griped as thatshifter was banging gears in this Big Block Roadrunnersince it was bought brand new in 1972!
To get the power to the pavement and hold up to theMonstrous amounts of Torque the 572" Hemi, the original8.75 rear differential has given up its real estate in leu ofa Moiser built Dana 60 with Strange axles and a 3.73 gear ratio.
There was no corner cutting when it came to buying allof the right toys to make this Beast move like a over sizedRocket ship and sound like the True Muscle Car that it is.Making sure the exhaust gasses were expelled as fast asthe Dual 4BBL carbs draw air in, a full 3" TTI Headersand Mandrel Bent Exhaust System was installed with 3"Hemi style mufflers to keep the neighbors windows frombeing ripped out of the walls. The exhaust system exits therear of the car through "Machine Gun" style 3" ReproductionOrange centered factory style exhaust tips.
How do you stop a 800HP Giant Thoroughbred? One word,Wilwood. The 4 wheel Disc Brakes needed to be the strongestavailable to be able to work with the Massive amounts of liftand "0" vacuum from the solid roller camshaft so a Hydroboostsystem was employed and this thing stops on a dime with anickel change!
The current owner opted to go with look he had on the carin the 1970's and purchased a set of 15" Mag aluminum"slot" wheels and keep with the "Day 2" look and havea blackball tire on the front and a white letter on the rear. This car was completed in 2012 and has had under 500miles put on the car since its complete restoration.
There is well over $100,000 in the build of this 1972Plymouth "HEMI" Roadrunner, this is going to bethe only time anyone viewing this car will be able topurchase a 800HP HEMI MOPAR for this kind of money!!!!!
Do not miss out on this... if the ORIGINAL OWNERchanges his mind then it will probably never be availableagain. There are restored small block 4 speed 1972Roadrunners going for more than where the reserve isset on this HEMI Powered Monster!!!
