1940 Plymouth Sedan Description

You've probably seen a significant uptick in the number of 4-door hot rods we've been selling, and for good reason. Cars like this pretty 1940 Plymouth sedan are comfortable, spacious enough for the whole family, and a lot more affordable than the usual coupes and roadsters. With the same performance and a distinctive look that's very appealing, this could be the wave of the future.Painting any car bright Viper Red is bound to attract some attention, so it's a good thing the Plymouth is already so handsome. The sleek, rounded, art-deco look isn't diminished one bit by the flashy paint and lowered stance, and you'll find that you can spend a lot of time looking at the car and not see all the wonderful details. Check out the wonderful fluted grille and Plymouth sailing ship hood ornament, which are still in place just as Plymouth designers intended. Then there are the subtle character lines in the fenders that give the car a look of flowing motion, which works well with the sleek fastback profile. The finish is still in good shape, not perfect after a few seasons of cruise nights, but plenty good enough to still be the center of attention. The chrome trim is especially good and you can see that a significant amount of cash was spent there, which makes all the difference. Nothing's been shaved, chopped, or customized, and aside from the wheels and tinted windows, it's very much a 1940s look. The interior doesn't break any new ground, offering a 1940s sensibility and comfortable accommodations for five. Those might be the original bench seats, now wrapped in gray tweed and vinyl with a period pattern that seems right at home. Custom door panels continue the theme and offer thoughtful tips like little map pockets and custom armrests. The dash has been filled and smoothed, then a full set of white-faced Dolphin gauges were installed, including a tachometer down low. Painting the dash gray was the right choice, keeping the interior easy on the eyes. It's full of luxury features, too, including A/C, a tilt steering column, power windows and seat, as well as an AM/FM stereo with CD changer, so you can hit the road in comfort. The A/C is cold, the back seat is spacious, and there's plenty of room in the trunk for luggage and other gear. No surprises under the hood, either, thanks to a 350 cubic inch Chevrolet V8. It's fitted with familiar upgrades like a Holley carburetor on a polished Edelbrock intake manifold, an HEI ignition system, and some chrome dress-up. The firewall has been smoothed and service access is decent, so you know someone spent some time getting the little stuff dialed-in just so. A big aluminum radiator keeps it nice and cool at cruising speeds and with a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, it's really effortless on the highway. Front suspension equipment includes a Mustang II setup with tubular A-arms, while leaf springs handle the rear. A recent dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers gives it a burbling hot rod exhaust note and the stance is wicked, especially for a 4-door! Classic Weld Pro-Star wheels look great and carry big-n-little 15-inch Michelin radials. The day of the sedan has arrived. Given all the features, the build quality, the gorgeous interior, and turn-key reliability, this car would cost twice as much if it were a coupe. Twice the doors for half the price?
