1973 Plymouth Barracuda
You lying so low in the weeds
I bet you gonna ambush me
You'd have me down, down, down on my knees Now wouldn't you, Barracuda? Oh......
As the song by HEART goes, so goes the overall look of the '68 Barracuda, so named after a species of fish that are drawn to shiny objects. So too you may be with a beautiful example here at Classic Auto Mall.
For consignment, a tribute car with a ground up restoration from 2000-2005 the additional finishing touches put on in 2018. Wrapped in very nice paint, some badging from the era, and sexy interior, this is now a fine tribute, so let's pay tribute...by reading this description!
Exterior
The beneficiary of an all panels stripped, filled where needed, the sprayed with Vitamin C orange with iridescent black decals. Panels are straight, gaps are well minded and overall the exterior is straight and true. The black belt line decal begins as thin up front then widen toward the rear. The black rear deck panel houses 4 round taillights and is framed below by a small chrome bumper in good condition. Badging back here shows a little wear but is period correct. Up front a black and argent split grille and dual angled rearward intake snouts are covered on the ends with the black highlighting if you will. 15-inch Mopar rally wheels are on all 4 corners.
Interior
Excellent would best describe all surfaces in the passenger compartment. All black vinyl shiny buckets, and a rear bench feature tuck and roll inside panels and smooth vinyl bolsters. A wood grained appliqu is on the center console which also sports black vinyl and a slap stick shifter. Like new carpet in black floats the seats, and a very clean dash is noted with a Tuff Wheel style steering wheel. Headliner is like new as is the dash top with no cracks or markings. Door handles, locks, Plinkington door windows and 1/4 windows, widow whiskers, and windshield are all newly installed in the 2018 restoration continuation. (is that like conjunction junction?). Noted are 1970/71 Barracuda Gran Coupe Door panels that add a luxury touch.
Drivetrain
The circa 1970 340ci engine has been refreshed, and a mild Erson cam has been added (specs .447i .450e lift 222i, 232e duration @ .050). A 4-barrel Edelbrock carb feeds fuel to the mill through an Edelbrock intake manifold. A 3-speed A727 Torqueflite transmission with an 11 inch converter has a 2800-3200 RPM stall. An 8-3/4-inch 3.55 sure grip rear throws power out to the rear tires and makes you go forward...fast!
Undercarriage
Peering underside, I'm in Halloween heaven, with orange floorpans, toe kicks, and rockers peppered with black shiny frame and suspension, and shiny silver glass pack style exhaust free flowing rearward. Torsion bar front suspension, and leaf spring rear suspension are seen under here. Also, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes are mechanically sound. No runs no drips no errors as they say.
Drive-Ability
An overall good experience with the added horses, nice interior, and all working inside and out. A quick starter, a quick accelerator, and smooth slap shifter this one is a quickie.
A tribute muscle car very well done, with little fault to be found throughout. Excellent paint, iridescent black stickers, new interior, and Vitamin C colored paint, this is now right out of the early 1970's muscle car history book.
