1969 Plymouth GTX Description
Stunning fresh rotisserie restoration. Original Super Track Pack car with 4-speed and Dana 60 rear end. Fresh HEMI V8 detailed for show and tuned to run right on pump gas. Gorgeous, fast, fun Mopar ready to rumble!
This spectacular 1969 Plymouth GTX features a cost-no-object rotisserie restoration to an exceptionally high standard. Experts will have already checked the fender tag to see its pedigree, and you’ll be pleased to note this is a real-deal Super Track Pack car that was originally delivered with a 4-speed and a thumping 440 cubic inch mill under the hood. The car was stripped to bare metal and rebuilt from there. Expert bodywork ensures that the B-body sheetmetal is laser-straight, including that crease on the rear quarters that’s almost sharp enough to give you a paper cut. Gaps are excellent throughout, probably better than new, and thanks to two-stage urethane paint, the stunning paint job glows in the sunlight. They also added the correct V21 Performance hood treatment along with functional cold air induction and chrome HEMI badges. The vinyl top was replaced and obviously there are no issues underneath, and the matching satin black rocker panels with that red pinstripe are a big part of why the GTX is special. Fresh chrome on the bumpers, polished stainless trim, and a fresh $2000 trunk insert (perhaps the last NOS piece on the planet) help with the well-dressed look.
Inside it received an all-new P6X black bucket seat interior from Legendary and literally everything you can touch is new. All the wood appliques are bright and crisp and the woodgrained steering wheel helps with the upscale feel of the GTX. A full set of factory gauges include a factory tach and there are auxiliary gauges under the dash for temperature and oil pressure. A Hurst shifter with cue ball knob is a period-correct accessory that makes this car a joy to row through the gears. You’ll also note that all the interior courtesy lights are fully functional, the seat belts have been re-webbed, and the factory AM radio works as it should. The trunk is also correctly detailed with a reproduction mat and spare tire assembly, and just check out those floors—they’ve been color sanded just like the rest of the body!
This GTX was acquired as a roller, so the original powerplant was long gone (is that really a surprise in a Super Track Pack car with 4.10 gears?). Making the best of the situation, they took that opportunity to upgrade the hardware inside. That’s a fresh 426 cubic inch HEMI V8 which was, in fact, one of the development engines for Mopar Performance’s all-new crate motors, so it’s a fantastic runner with a few tricks directly from the guys who know these engines best. It is highly detailed for a factory-correct look, from the giant orange air cleaner to the correct black wrinkle-finish valve covers to the Hemi Orange paint on the block. Little stuff like the markings, the hose clamps, the mounting hardware, and even the battery are all accurately restored. Yeah, it’s got the right sound, but it starts easily, idles nicely hot or cold, and doesn’t have any bad habits—that’s harder to achieve than you think with these cars.
The underbody was treated to the same paint, color sand, and polish job as the rest of the bodywork, so all the hardware really sparkles. Those ceramic-coated long-tube headers are a work of art! There’s also a fully rebuilt and detailed front suspension with disc brakes, a correct A833 4-speed manual transmission, and a bulletproof Dana 60 rear end out back, part of the Super Track Pack, although it now houses 3.54 gears. From a sheetmetal perspective, the floors are exceptional, the trunk extensions are unmarked, and the rocker panel seams are arrow-straight. It’s easy to see how six-figures’ worth of restoration work paid off. It sits on fresh Magnum 500 wheels with new 235/70/15 BFGoodrich redline radials that are the best possible choice for a GTX like this.
This car stops traffic on the road and attracts crowds at the shows simply because everyone remembers these as the king of the streets. Add in the spectacular over-the-top restoration and you have a car that is among the very finest we’ve ever featured. If you love the GTX like we do, this exceptional hardtop will delight you every time you turn the key. Call today!
