The 440-cid engine was completely rebuilt and bored 0.030-inch over by Precision Machine in nearby Santa Paula, California. The previous owner, Troy Martin topped the block with anEdelbrock Power Packtop end kit that includedEdelbrock RPM440-cid aluminum cylinder heads,Performerintake, and camshaft. The biggest change to driveability came with the installation of anMSD Atomic EFIunit that allows you to adjust the tune from inside the car with a remote programmer. AnMSD Billet 6ALbox fires the plugs, timing set at 14-degree initial, and 34 degrees all in. Estimates have the power set at close to 525 hp.

The camshaft gives the Barracuda a very lopey sound but the brakes are solid and assisted by an electric brake booster tucked under the fenderwell. TheChampion aluminum radiatorkeeps things cool enhanced with a pair ofFlex-a-lite fans.
The 1968 727 TorqueFlite transmission, reworked byHughes Performance, uses a 2,500-stall speed converter of the same make.
