1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe Description

In over seven decades, this 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe coupe has gone from a practical car to downright stylish. So to find an example like this that has some nice updates (like air conditioning) while never giving up its vintage style makes for quite an attractive early post WWII classic.

We all love a classic coupe, and this is a great piece of American history. Very similar to the pre-war Plymouths, these cars were about getting vehicles into the hands on an eager nation that was ready to once again celebrate the open road. This one symbolizes that cheery optimism in its details, like the two-piece wheel trim with whitewalls and period-correct upgrades, like the windshield sunshade. These Plymouths have nice details that show the designers were thinking about how to bring elements together. You see it in the full-length trim that even incorporates the door handles. The front is extra stylish with the tri-bar grille that incorporates the parking lights as well as the fender/headlight trim. And it's all wrapped in a timeless glossy black. So it has the right look for a cool cruising classic that's not overdone, yet it still knows how to command attention.

Inside, you'll immediately notice the seats. The upholstery has that great classic gray pinstripe broadcloth look and feel. The maroon back gives it a nice touch of color, and the door panels were done to match. The factory steering wheel and the full dash have that great classic Art Deco design. And while this has a vintage look, right down to the wood-like finish of the dash, there is one key upgrade that's sure to impress. After all, when was the last time you saw a 1940s-style machine with working air conditioning!

Under the hood is the correct-style 218 cubic-inch inline-six with a tidy look and a bright red block. It has a really cool/classic look, right down to the stickers on the oil filter housing. But you can also see there's something extra special going on there. This has the look of all the best upgrades of the tie. That means a bright Edmunds ribbed valve cover, Edmunds intake, and carburetors. And the Fenton split exhaust manifold means you get a true dual exhaust on this inline motor. It all makes for both a better car to show off and a better cruiser. So you'll like this this also has some nice driving features like the column shifted three-speed manual transmission w/overdrive and the classic whitewalls are hiding a more modern tire and tread.

If you're interested in early Mopars or just cool post-war American coupes, this Plymouth is an easy to run classic that will provide you smiles that go beyond its affordable price. Call today!!!
