1970 Plymouth Duster Description

1970 Plymouth Duster (VS29H0B296xxx) factory 340c.i.(H-code) car, Hurst 4-speed transmission and factory correct EF8 Ivy green paint!!!The Duster was completely rotisserie restored from top to bottom and looks absolutely incredible! The Duster has it’s original fender tag, power steering, factory front disc brakes, factory torque boxes, correct 1970 black 340 Duster side stripe and black trunk stripe, factory grill, AM/FM radio, factory (A62) woodgrain rallye cluster, (V1X) black vinyl top, rear window defroster, added hood black-ou, 340 decal and custom 5 on 4 factory bolt pattern wheels (15 x 7) with brand new Cooper tires. The stunning high gloss EF8 Ivy Green Metallic base/clear paint is the correct factory color. The Duster was rotisserie restored in 2015 from top to bottom and I just now finished the complete restoration. All of the body numbers match on the radiator support, VIN tag, fender tag and on the speaker shelf/trunk divider area. You must check these numbers to authenticate that it is a real 340 Duster. It has a factory 1970 date coded 340 engine and the 4-speed is the original numbers matching factory transmission. This is an absolutely beautiful car and one of the nicest factory H-code 340 Dusters you will find with this type of high caliber restoration, correct factory color and a 4-speed transmission! When doing a restoration of this caliber takes a lot of time, patience and money to be done correctly. Please understand this is not your average “driver” condition 340 Duster!!!

PAINT AND BODY

The body is in excellent shape and the panels are very straight with excellent seems and panel fit. The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit paper to achieve the high caliber ultra shine finish. This long process alone took over 50 hours and the finish shows it! The Dusters sheet metal is believed to be mostly original with only the lower quarters and trunk extension sections being replaced. The trunk floor, floor boards, rockers, fenders, hood, doors and frame rails are super clean and appear original. The Duster was painted about 2 years ago with base coat/clear coat and is in unbelievable condition… it has that deep wet look shine! It was done in a full rotisserie and completely disassembled to a shell. If you think it looks good in the photos you need to see it in person! The paint in all the door jams, trunk, inner fenders and complete undercarriage looks fantastic. The paint on the undercarriage is some of the nicest I’ve even seen!!! I am very critical on paint and there are only two extremely minor flaws in the paint. One is located below the driver door where the rocker meets the quarter at the seam under the bottom edge of the door it has a very small blister just starting about the size of a BB. The other is a super small mark in the metallic on the RH side just below the vinyl top chrome trim right on the body line (about a pencil tip size). The underside of the trunk lid and hood are also in excellent stunning condition. The doors open and close excellent with the ease of a finger and even the door latches and strikers were cleaned and polished.

GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is in very good condition with only a few very minor marks. The front windshield is new and in excellent shape. The original Chrysler side and rear glass is in very nice condition and only the driver/passenger side door glass have a few very minor scratches. All windows and locks operate as should. The front and rear bumpers are re-chromed and look excellent! The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine. The black vinyl top is new from Legendary Auto.

INTERIOR

The interior was re-done with correct factory seat covers, carpet, door panels, trunk divider, speaker shelf, dash pad, wood-grain on complete dash, headliner, correct interior insulation, dash gauge bezel and sill plates. The gauge cluster is super nice and looks awesome! All factory gauges work and operate correctly. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers and license plate light. The factory AM/FM radio also works. The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan, horn, speedometer and dimmer switch all work as should.

DRIVE TRAIN / SUSPENSION

The 340 has excellent power, runs very strong through all the gears and sounds great. The original 340 was gone before I got the car but the 340 in the Duster is a correct date coded 1970 340 motor with all the correct factory stuff. The 340 was rebuilt to 1970 340 specs and has a steel crank. It has new forged pistons, bored .030 over, Eagle rods, factory correct intake and correct 340 HP exhaust manifolds and more. The 340 gives an excellent range of power and maintains 17lbs of vacuum as should. It has the correct 2.02 “X” heads with the better flowing factory 340 manifolds LH 2863553 and RH 2863549 (1970). I only use the Brad Penn High Performance oil, which was just changed and is ready to go! It is one of the best oils on the market and already has the higher Zinc added in for older cars. The 340 has a casting date of 5-28-69 and engine casting # is 2780930-340 and the front ID badge below the LH head reads FW 340 P 3030 0025 (1970 motor and Windsor Plant built). The 340 is topped of with the correct 340 1970 intake #3462848 and has a brand new Edelbrock series 600 cfm carb with electric choke. I also have the original #’s 4-speed carb in a box already re-built. The newer restored Chrysler factory 340 radiator is the original 1970 part number 2998978 and also has the correct fan shroud. It cools excellent even on hotter summer days! The Hurst 4-speed transmission is the original numbers matching (PP833 3139 0041 on the ID surface) and is absolutely awesome and a blast to drive! The clutch and pressure plate are also new stock 340 replacements and is excellent for driving to cruises and shows. The rear end is an 8 3/4 with 3.23 posi center and a 741 case number on it. It was also blasted, painted and cleaned when restored. It has the original stock leaf springs with new hangers, bushings and rear shocks. The front suspension was completely done with all parts being blasted, primered and painted and re-installed. This excellent drive train combo has very good performance and handles great in all conditions whether highway or city driving. This is a very tight and excellent smooth running and driving 340 4-speed Duster! This Duster sets itself apart from others with a factory H-code car and a 4-speed that has been rotisserie restored from top to bottom! Please look at the photos closely to see the amount of detail work that was done! The undercarriage of the Duster is unbelievably clean and one of the best I’ve seen!!!

I typically restore and finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 30 years. I do every one as if it were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. This is one of the few cars you can view in person and say that it is actually nicer than the photos.
