1965 Pontiac GTO 389 Tri-Power Description

'65 Pontiac GTO, 4spd 389 Tri-Power Convertible, PHS Documented

Here before you is the king of the hill when you are looking for a '65 GTO. Formerly of the Zeb Morris Collection, this is a genuine PHS documented GTO Convertible, factory equipped 389 Tri-Power, 4spd manual transmission. Showing a mere 391 miles on a concours frame-off restoration. With the exception of a few items changed out as a practical consideration, she appears as she did when she rolled off the assembly line in 1965 according to the PHS.

The current purchased the vehicle out of the Zeb Morris Estate sale in 2011 as a fresh restoration, showing only 5 miles on the restoration. The factory front power drums were upgraded to disc brakes to improve the driving experience and overall safety considerations. The current owner also set the factory wood wheel aside and installed a smaller diameter custom wood wheel, again to enhance the driving experience for anyone over six feet tall. The OE Rally 1's shod in redline bias-ply tires are safely stored, the car currently fitted with Magnum 500 Road Wheels wrapped in radial redline meats. The effect is a period correct look with a solid road feel and predictable handling dynamics. Both sets of wheels and tires are included in the sale.

In the words of the owner, "this car is flawless and runs perfectly." The GTO's body lines show crisply in Mayfair Maize like a freshly pressed linen suit, elegantly offset by a Black soft top and matching bucket seat interior. She is turn-key ready and looking nearly new. Body prep and paint is significantly better than factory original. Body gaps are even and tight, overall panel fit is better than the factory could ever produce.

Lifting the hood reveals a well-detailed 389/360 HP 3x2bbl factory original engine. The motor is perhaps glossier than stock, but looks sharp.

Excellent workmanship on reproduction interior soft trim, fitted with rolled bucket seats and upholstery. She is as factory optioned wood-rimmed steering wheel and wood-grained trim, Rally instrumentation, power steering, power brakes, and push-button AM radio. The smaller diameter wood steering wheel and modern Hurst shifter are the only deviations from stock. The original wheel has been boxed and set aside and included in the sale.
