So with that said let's have an auction.
Up for auction is a very clean, very original 1962 Pontiac Bonneville with a numbers matching 389. Factory produced as a 11B-425A code, which is a 389 Tri-Power paired with a 3 speed manual trans. PHS reports this car as 1 of 2092 as produced. I wonder how many are left, and howmuch lower that number with color combo andother factory installed accessories. We obtained several documents from PHS to go along with this car. They provided us with a copy of the build sheet, dealer order form and AMA spec packet. The owners manual was also in the glove box. The build sheet shows it as an Arlington, TX. build, and shipped to San Marcos Motor Co. San Marcos, TX. We purchased it in Texas and shipped to Illinois. I was told this car has never left Texas. Looking at the underside and the rest of the body I would have to agree. I have a few parts receipts from Texas from the late 90’s. This is anice solid, original rare optioned Bonneville. It has original floors and sheet metal. Floors have no patches and no rot. The bottoms of the doors, trunk, and hood are not swollen. Door gaps, trunk, hood, and body lines line up great.
The car was painted in August of 2002. The paint looks good from 5 feet, it is shiny and bright. The trim, door handles and locks were removed when sprayed, but it was done on a budget. There are some runs and unevenness in the paint when the color was put down, The color is a nice match to the original which was code L-Belmar Red. The paint is not perfect and does have chips and scratches and some are touched up and some are not. While the paint is acceptable, this car needs a quality paint job to bring this car back to the ultimate performer that it was in the day. The underside of the car is impressive as well. The floors, frame, rockers are in great shape. There is a light scaling in some spots on the frame and floors. The rockers are solid. The exhaust needs to be repaired from the mufflers back. It’s all there but the pipes are just starting to deteriorate and rust through. The chrome trim, window moldings, tail light extensions and, bumpers look great. They have a great shine and most have no pitting at all.
Inside the car is a time capsule. The carpet, seats, dash and headliner are like new. The windows operate correctly and the glass has no cracks. The door and trunk seals are in great shape and fully intact.
Under the hood, the engine is finely detailed. There are no signs of cobbling under the hood. The only changes I see are thecoil pack/ignition mod that was added and the after market air cleaners and valve covers. Included in the sale are the factory valve covers and Tri-Power air cleaner. The wires and looms have not been cut up and spliced. The 389ci engine starts right up, and goes right through the gears quickly. The car was built as a manual 3 on the tree car, and has been converted to a floor shift. We have all the column shift parts boxed here with the car. The truck compartment is complete and clean, jack, 8 lug spare, spare cover, jack bag, and accessories are all there.
