The car was purchased 8 years ago as a bone stock V6 5 speed. I had read a lot about the car and the options to upgrade the power plant and was intrigued by the claim it is the only factory manufactured mid-engine car built in the US.
Over the period of 7 of those years of ownership I have modified the car using some of the best ideas and equipment to make a unique car that performs very well, gets lots of looks and questions and has won multiple trophies in various car shows.
The first question many people reading this will ask is, “Why are you selling it?” The answer is simple. I turning 70 and will need to retire soon. Some of my projects just have to go. I have cut my stable of motorcycles from 3 down to one and now the Fiero needs to go to someone who will appreciate the car.
Here are the modifications made with explanations.
Engine and supporting systems:
The V6 has been replaced with a small block Chevy 383 with 4 bolt mains. Being bored when built she is now 388 CI. She was built to be a driver and the heads are stock 350 Chevy and compression ratio is unchanged and if I remember correctly it is around 9 or 9 ½ to 1. With a Crane cam she originally ran a 4 barrel Edelbrock carb and I have the dyno sheets that show when broken in on the dyno she had 320HP and 410 ft. lbs. of torque. Plenty of go for a 3000 lb car. The carb is gone and she now sports a TBI fuel injection system by FAST. This system is self learning and programmable with the plug in controller. The ignition has been upgraded to CDI by MSD. She is cooled by a 55GPM electric, block mounted water pump by CSR. The radiator is a custom unit from V8 Archie with an electric fan and overheating has not been a problem. Battery has been relocated to the front of the car and is under the spare tire. A battery disconnect switch is also up front. There is no catalytic converter and it runs a single Flow Master muffler with 1 inlet and 2 outlets and is mounted in the stock location. The trunk has not been cut as is so common and is full size. The FAST ECM and the MSD controller are both mounted in the trunk.
Transmission and drive line:
The original 5 speed has been replaced by a new old stock 6 speed from the 2005 -2006 Pontiac G6. Transmission has less than 500 miles on it. A flywheel adapter from V8 Archie mates the transmission to a new SPEC Stage 3+ clutch. Custom axles were built with a combination of Fiero and G6 parts. Speedometer has been calibrated to with 1 mph of GPS using a Dakota Digital Speedo Interface. Tachometer has been calibrated to the V8.
Suspension and brakes:
Every bushing in the suspension and the rear cradle has been replaced with red urethane bushings. All ball joints and tie rod ends were replaced. The steering rack was replaced with a rebuilt unit. There is “zero” play in the steering. Front was lowered with Eibach springs and shocks are brand new adjustable Koni's. Rear struts were converted to coil overs using parts from QA1 and are adjustable. Front tires are 215/45R17 and rears are 225/45R17. Brakes have been converted to Corvette from 84-87 with vented rotors front and rear and a larger master cylinder and brake booster from a Chevy S10. Stock Fiero hubs and lug pattern has been retained. Car has an added rear sway bar. Corners a lot like a go cart.
Interior
Seats have been rebuilt as needed n the bolster area and have all new upholstery. Headliner has been replaced. Ashtrays have been removed for a cleaner look. The dash has the stock GT auxiliary gauges. The stock radio from 1987 had a cassette player and has been replaced with a similar but later vintage Pontiac radio with a CD player and equalizer. Car also has the upgraded factory mini sub woofer. The entire floor pan was covered with Dyna Mat sound insulation. Power mirrors, windows and door locks. Has alarm system with 2 Key Fobs and allows remote access to rear trunk and engine bay.
Exterior
The rear deck lid has a hood scoop for a muscle car era Dodge that has been reversed and molded into the deck using the proper adhesive/filler as used on Corvettes. After 5 years there is no cracking or ghosting of any kind as it was done correctly. The scoop is functional and vents hot air out the back rather than scoops in cool air. The tail lights were replaced with NOS lights during the build. All lights work correctly and the “PONTIAC” in the center lights up when the ignition is on. The paint is a factory Pontiac color used on, among others, the Solstice. It is called Techno Grey Metallic and is a base coat clear coat system.
Two things to note:
I have never hooked the AC compressor back up. With the stock V6 you remove the engine out the bottom of the car while leaving the AC compressor hanging from the forward firewall. That way the Freon lines are never disconnected. With a big V8 the compressor mounts low on the engine and has to be removed in order to drop the engine out the bottom. This means having the system re-charged every time the engine goes back in the car, I did this the first time. That was about 5 years ago and I have never bothered with it since. The compressor and all parts are mounted but I cannot guarantee their condition. The fitting on the end of the hoses from the compressor to the lines on the frame has been damaged and will need to be replaced.
The center console has developed a crack in the center portion where your arm would rest. On eBay a replacement console usually goes for $60 to $90. If I find one before the car sells I will replace it. It only has 4 screws. If not I will take $250 off the winning bid amount and the buyer may replace himself or have it recovered.
I will cooperate with your shipper but all arrangements must be made by you. Be sure to let your shipper know this car sits low. I have great feedback as both a buyer and a seller on eBay for years. I will not be scammed. The car will not leave my property until any funds are in my hands and checks have cleared the bank. This includes even cashiers checks. A non refundable deposit of $750 is due within 48 hours of the winning bid. The bid only may be via PayPal. As a note of interest the insurance for the car is very inexpensive through State Farm because it is considered a classic due to it's age. The car is listed for sale through the Fiero Forum and locally and unless the minimum bid has been met I reserve the right to cancel the sale up to that point.
Ask questions and I will try to answer them within 24 hours.I have included pictures of car show trophies and am proudest of the “Best Engine Bay” award from the Medford Cruise car show. If the buyer wishes I will include the trophies as they are part of the car's history. I also have documentation for things such as the Fast injection, MSD ignition, shop manuals and other material whichwill all be included.

On Jan-01-17 at 18:10:00 PST, seller added the following information:The question has been asked about the seats, "Are they Mr. Mikes?" Yes, they were redone using a kit from Mr. Mikes and they are vinyl, not leather. Fiero people know Mr. Mikes as he makes only quality products.
