1956 Pontiac Cheiftain Description

I call this a Chieftain based on pics and research although the guy I got it from called it a Star Chief. I'm sure a Pontiac buff will set me straight on this.

Here's the story on this car. It was purchased new in '56 from Mann Pontiac, etersburg Va. In '59 a woman purchased it from the original buyer. The title stated 400 miles. She drove the car throughout the 60's putting on the majority of the 48k miles that are on it. In 1977 a neighbor bought it from her (they had known each other since he was a child) and he drove it a handful of times and kept it in a closed shed. He never drove the car from about '79 or '80 but would start it up regularly. He had a used car dealer license so he kept the title open all those years. I transferred her original title into my name last week.

The car has never had any paint or body work as well as any repairs other than normal maintenance. It has old gas in the tank so when I started it up I poured gas into the carb. She cranked up on the first try. I have video of this but can't post here. I also have a "walk around" video. There is one dent in the left rear quarter panel (pic included) near the tail light. There is a touch of surface rust where the paint had gotten thin (pic included). the upholstery is original and not torn as is the headliner. There are no cracks in any of the glass. The glove compartment door won't stay shut. Everything seems to work on this car although I didn't try the radio. The auction winner will pick the car up in Raleigh, C. All arrangements for taking delivery of the car must be made by the auction winner.
