1980 Pontiac Trans Am Official Pace Car with T-Tops Description

1980 Pontiac Turbo TransAm Indy Pace Car "No Reserve"with T-Tops I recently purchased this 1980 Pontiac Turbo TransAm Indy Pace Car edition from a gentleman right here in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He included the Pontiac Historical Society documents that prove this is an authentic 1980 Turbo-TransAmOfficial Indy Pace Car edition and not just a 1980 TransAm that was cloned into a Pace car. This car was purchased new at Frank Brown Pontiac, Inc. in Lubbock, Texas on April 6th, 1980.This is the first time this rare Pontiac has been offered to the public on eBay. If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures.
With each passing year it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find any Indianapolis 500 Indy Pace Car from any year to restore. I am selling this TransAm as needing a complete restoration where every part and panel will need to be repaired or restored in order to bring this car back to its former glory. I will explain everything I found out from the previous owner at the point of purchase. If you are looking to restore a TransAm you may as well choose a rare TransAm with Mirrored Glass T-Tops.
The prior owner made this purchase about four years agowith theintention on restoring this rare gem, but he had three other TransAm's. I ended up buying this one andhis red 1978 TransAm in a package deal. I don't know all that much about TransAm's, butI was toldboth the cars I purchased have the original engines. They both surely look all original to me. He said he replacedall four calipersand brake pads on the Pace Car, but that was as far as he got with his restoration intentions. The four wheel disc brakes do stop the car well, but the brake light is on. He put a new battery in the car and this Turbo-TransAmstarts right up. I drove this car about four miles from his apartment complex to my home without any issues. I don't know how fast these TurboTransAm's are supposed to be, but the engine does sound strong with no ticks or knocks. I just know they look cool, and remember everybody wanted one when I was younger. After all, What guy doesn't want a TransAm? May as well have a rare one if you're going to own one. The winning bidder will most likely have endless thumbs up wherever they drive. You should have an outgoing personality to drive a car like this, because everywhere you go people will be attracted to you like a magnet.
This is a very highly optionedTransAm that came ordered with Power Steering, Power Four WheelDisc Brakes, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Power Trunk Release, Tilt Steering Wheel, Electric Rear Defogger, Engine Block Heater, Cruise Control, Radial Tuned Suspension, Air Conditioning, Mirrored T-Tops, Rear Window Louvers, and the best option of all being a Turbo-TransAm Official Pace Car. The factory air conditioning looks to be mostly complete, butI'm sure it will need to be gone through, andneed an R-12 Freon charge to blow ice cold. The prior owner said it was never converted over to the new type of refrigerant. From what I can see most of theoriginal factory parts arestill in place. He said this is the original paint, but several areas on the car were touched up with white primer to save the panels that were starting to show wear from the elements. The Screaming Fire Chicken was partially removed, but those replacement decals can be found at Phoenix Graphics for a reasonable price. I do have a pair of new old stock original Indianapolis Motor Speedway wing decals that go under the TransAm decals on the front fenders. I just couldn't see applying them on this car until the fresh set of Pace Car decals are applied. Those will be included in the arm rest compartment of the console for the winning bidder to apply. I feel that all of the original body panels can be used in the restoration. The dash could use a new pad, and the headliner will need to be replaced, although all the original headliner components are included. The front seats are showing wear, so a new pair of imitation sheepskin covers were placed on the bucket seats. The carpet looks to be newer and has a set of four brand new gray carpeted floor mats. This TransAm has theoriginal interiorand does show wear, but isstill in relatively decent conditionas evident from the pictures. There is an aftermarket detachable face plate AM/FM CD player, but the faceplate is missing. I didn't see any evidence of this car ever being involved in any accidents. The original Fisher T-Top covers are included inside the trunk. Those are typically long gone after all these years. I'm selling thisTransAm with an open, clean, and clear title that was issued in the State of Wisconsin.
The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1980 Pontiac TransAm Indy Pace CarSpecial Edition with the Turbo 4.9 Liter engine andair conditioning listed at $60,500 in high condition, which theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices.
Theaverage condition value is $43,250 which theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer!
Nada hasthe lowest condition value at $19,125 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. The numbers don't lie! This True TransAm "Indy Pace Car Edition" is a very valuable automobile if restored properly! Thesesecond generation 1970-81 TransAm's have consistently shown toescalate in value with each quarter. I tried to describe everything to the best of my ability. The condition of this 37-year old classic sports car is viewed through my opinion and should be construed as subjective as is the case with all pre-owned vehicles. It is to be assumed that all used vehicles have some degree of wear and tear. Therefore, I assume no responsibility for any errors in my description. I try to be as accurate as possible, but it is recommended any potential buyer inspect this vehicle in Kenosha, WI. prior to the end of the auction. This "Turbo-TransAm Pace car edition" is being sold as is where is with no warranties expressed or implied.
