1971 Pontiac LEMANS SPORT CONVERTIBLE -- Description
1971 Pontiac LeMans SS Convertible
This 1971 Pontiac LeMans Convertible has the makings of a top notch collector car. The current owner has asked us to sell it for him and describe the various issues that need to be taken care of before it can truly bring in top dollar. Our client bought this car with every intention of fixing it up accordingly. Two things prevented that from happening. First, a garage to work on it in, and second, money.
Best things first. The 400ci engine r...uns great, and she drives great. The odometer shows 80k plus. The interior of the car is in relatively good shape. It's obvious that she has always been a driver and was used the way it should be. Personally, I happen to think that the gold color scheme works perfectly with the wheels, soft top, and interior. The soft top us in great shape and works perfectly. Body wise, the car shows no signs of damage, the paint has held up remarkably well and shines the way it should when washed.
The underside of the car could use some cleaning. The undercoating they used from that factory was never a favorite of mine. If you sign up for our newsletter, you will receive email updates on new cars we have listed, as well as progress reports on several restoration jobs. One in particular happens to be a 66' Malibu SS Convertible. We cleaned the entire undercarriage and turned it into a high gloss black work of art. This same process needs to carry over to LeMans. There were some very small pinholes in the trunk area. In order to prevent water from entering, the owner plugged them up with silicone. These holes are very small, however, if it were my car, I would replace the pan. Other areas under the car are suggested maintenance items, such as, bushings, suspension, etc.
There's a new starter, new fuel tank and lines, new carb., new intake manifold. We have receipts for about $5,000 for these parts.
From a scale rating system, I would give this car a solid 7. 30 hours of labor and a few hundred dollars in parts, this car could be an 8.5 all around. It's a GTO in every sense of the word, with the exception price.
