1968 Pontiac Tempest...Restore or Parts Car...GTO Tribute Car? In Maryland
1968 Pontiac Tempest Description
1968 Pontiac Tempest. 350 Pontiac engine, 2 speed automatic. This is a non-running car. It rolls easy. The car has been stored for the last 20 years. I bought it in 1996 as a parts car for a68 GTO I was restoring. Never did finish the 68 GTO, [sold it unrestored about 6 yrs ago].When I bought this car it ran very good. The engine had a nice loping idle, so I'm pretty sure it has a mild cam.For the first 15 years I owned it I would start it every couple yearsthen about 5 years agowhen I tried to start it and it had no spark. I never got around to looking into itafter that. At this point it probably needs a rebuilt carb as well as fixing the spark problem. The engine spins freely and fast. The 2-speed tranny was rebuilt a couple months before I bought it. The car was bought at a GTO swap meetthat Wayne Garrison put on.[a well known GTO guy in Maryland]..........The car has a very nice hood and good useable doors. The front fenders are included and need patch panels at the bottom. The cowl is rotted at the bottom and has a few small holes on the top. The quartersneed some workand the decklid is rusted bad at the edge where they all rust, rear bumper is toast. The trunk pan is real solid with a few small holes and the usual rot at the wheel wells. The front and rear floor pans look great, just a small hole on the front passenger side. The interior is pretty rough. Yes...that is lambs wool on the dash and yes...all the trim, bumpers and grille are painted green...that's the way I bought it....gotta love it!The grille is actually in very nice shape with no damage other than being painted green. This would be a great car to make a GTO tribute car or would make a great parts car. It is pretty much complete except for the hood hinges, front fender bolts, 1 tail light lens, front valenceand inside carpet. Obviously, if it was restored it would need a lot of work. Please be able to pay $250 deposit within 24 hrs. of auction ending via Paypal. Balance to be paid in cash or Postal money orders within7 days. I welcome any pre-purchase inspections, I am 1/2 mile off I-95 exit 77 in Edgewood. Inspect before the auction ends...not after you win it.... ****NEW INFO ADDED.....The block is YN code, the heads are # 17, these both check out as 1968 350cid 265hp, the casting # on the intake manifold is 485912 which is 1972 400 or 455 4 bbl., I have added more picts of the fenders, the fenders were removed when I was going to use the car as a parts car to be put on my 68 GTO project....I am thinking about taking the time to get it running so if the auction ends or disappearslook for it to be relisted....Thanks, Bill....
