This is a project 38 years in the making.
Purchased at 68,400 miles in 2015
It is a numbers matching "pattern" Judge built in Fremont the 4th week of January, 1969.
The engine was pulled in 1979 due to spun rod and never reassembled until we rescued it.
Purchased by me in May of 2015 and rescued July 5 2015
Rebuilt to stock as possible in the interest of getting it road worthy, safe, and dependable.
The recent "preservation" required a cowl repair, trunk floor replacement, engine rebuild (+.030, KB hypereutectic pistons, rotating assembly balanced, and Pertronix ignition, bronze valve guides), new crank 10/10, exhaust, wiring, brakes, and suspension rebuild.
Was the cover car and centerfold for the August 2016 Muscle Car Review
Two of the wheels are the correct December '68 JA wheels, three wheels are 14x6 but not JAs, you cannot tell the difference without looking at the codes. Not sure where the adopted wheels entered the story. All the wheels were blasted, the powder coated the rallye silver, then the dark argent was applied to the sanded powder coating. they look great! The spare is an old bias I bought on eBay....very hard and I would not drive it over 10mph. The real tires are just new 14" I bought while Iwas for the Big Oval radials to be produced.
The doors and rear window have been totally taken apart, cleaned, lubed, and the interiors of the doors/quarter sprayed with Eastwood rust inhibitor paint.
The driver's seat has new foam, and three panels replaced where they were dry. He did an EXCELLENT job and if you didn't know which ones were changed, you can't find his work.
Floor pans were cleaned, and I used POR 15, then covered them (and the inside of the doors) with rubber sound/vibration dampening mat. Remember, this Judge was unattended for almost 40 years, and preserved, not rotisserie restored. There are scrapes and dings here and there.
Again, the project was to keep as much originality as possible. I had to replace the trunk filler, and I welded in new metal on the trunk lip then blended the paint up under the spoiler. (trust me, it is killing me not to put this on a full on restoration....which is what will happen if I keep it.....)
It has approximately 4250 miles on it since I first drove it on the afternoon of May 16, 2016.(and I drive it, so this will slowly go up)
Original to car, date code correct, parts included, but not on the car:
Water pump (hard to find the few made in the first quarter of ’69)
Radiator (RAIII 4 speed)
Voltage regulator
Wiper motor
RA IV distributor
Master cylinder
Brake booster
Reproduction parts used to get the car safe, dependable, and weather tight
Firewall forward wiring harness
Door seals and gaskets
Trunk filler panel
Core support
Front steering components (Moog ball joints), centerlink, ends, etc
Throttle bracket
RA filter to hood seal
Trunk seal
Trunk filler panel
Trunk floor
The rear part of the cowl to the bottom of the dash was repaired. It is perfect. VIN plate and the data plate were NOT removed during this. The cowl was rusted under the stainless strip at the bottom of the windshield.
Headlights
Windshield
Passenger side mirror (did not have one from the factory)
Antennae
Distributor (with Pertronix III system, rev limiter set at 5500)
fuel pump
pump to carb line (looks good)
stainless tank to pump line
fuel tank
Carpet
Front seat foam
All new body bushings
rear lower control arms have new poly bushings
BMR springs (1" lowering) all four
Koni shocks
Universal joints (greaseable)
Rear brake components (drums are correct dated coded units, I assume original)
Brake pads
Front calipers
Rear slave cylinders
Master cylinder
Clutch, pressure plate, needle pilot bearing
PYPES X exhaust. 2.5”
Needs (in my opinion):
right quarter fix or replace
passenger door fix
left quarter lower replace (small rust area, and the patch panel is included)
The piece between the nose and the core support.
Radio hooked up (if you care). It is the original AM radio. It was in the trunk and I just put it in to fill the hole.
Horns repaired
Seat belts cleaned/restored
Notes:
All the rally gauges work perfectly. I took the clock out, took it apart and cleaned/lubed it. It ran for about a month and now has gone on strike again. If I took it out again (which is like four lesson in Pilates and some yoga thrown in for good measure, but it can be done), I would put the quartz movement in and be done with it....
Wipers work great and return with no problem.
I have not worked on the horns to get them working. Either buy after markets or I've heard you can take the horns apart and clean the points....I've not gotten to that.
Blinkers, flashers, etc all work fine.
The buy it now price is as it sits and drives (I would absolutely get in it and drive it across country). If it does not sell, I will fix the quarters and passenger door, blend the paint to keep it as "original" as possible, and the price will go up accordingly.
I have driven it in traffic in 100 degree days for two summers now and it does not overheat (but, freshly cleaned block, brand new radiator, etc. It shouldn't.)
Buyer will get a flash drive of every photo I have regarding its rescue and preservation.
I reserve the right to end the auction early, as it is for sale privately and/or I may decide not to sell....
I have the PHS, but I encourage you to pull your own.
After the transaction is complete, it can sit in the shop here (very protected) for up to 60 days for $3/day.
I encourage an inspection. call with any questions, I will send you photos of anything you need to see, etc. That said, ask your wife, make sure you can afford it. You are bidding on a very virgin, numbers matching, 1969 patternJudge.
$1000 NON REFUNDABLE deposit due within 24 hours of winning or buying, balance due within36 hours or it will be relisted and the buy or bid will be null and void. Final payment can be wired, cash, or cashiers check. No personal checks.
Partial trades (a clean '69 or '70gto body/frame) interest me.
