1979 Pontiac Firebird Description
Gorgeous 1979 Firebird Formula Convertible .. this car started its life as a T-Top car and was sent over to National Coach Engineering in 1979 for a Dealer Option convertible makeover,The car is Number 70 out of about 250 convertible conversions.
National Coach Engineering of Michigan (1979 - 1982)
In 1978 this company began converting Firebirds to convertibles. Prices ranged from $19,995 to $24,995 in 1979. For some perspective the 10th Anniversary Trans Am (Pontiac's most expensive standard offering for 1979) averaged around $10k. The NCE dealer option added on average over $8,000 to the factory invoice. Only T-Top Trans Ams were shipped to the NCE facility for conversion. This was due primarily to the extra rigidity built into the T-Top cars. NCE reinforced the frame and pillars as part of the conversion process. They also re-located the rear speakers and dome light. One interesting note is that a roll bar option was offered by NCE but only for the 10th Anniversary models. In order to get an NCE convertible it had to be noted on the order sheet. Its believed, but not confirmed that NCE converted 250 Firebirds in 1979. |
2 Toned paint in Silver and Grey, with the Blue decal option to match the light blue interior.
She has had one recent repaint to exact factory colors. As well as a new convertible top, new hounds tooth seat covers, carpet, arm rests and inner door panels and trim. True Flowmaster dual exhaust and new chrome tips added about 200 miles ago.
She has 27582 on her speedomete, and while there is not specific documentation to prove that she is a 27582 mile ca, I do have title transfer copies from second buyer who then transferred to her son, that indicate date, mileages, and the condition of the car that point to her being a real 27582 mile car. The car spent most of her life garaged in Gallop/Grants NM. She is rust fre, and even during the repaint, the Auto Body Company remarked on her being free of rust problems.
The paint and exterior are almost flawless, there are a couple rock chips on the panels behind the rear wheels. there are also 2 cracks in the original dash as noted in the pics.I do have the original arm rests, door panels, and the Original replacement wheels from NCE ( chrome metal spokes with Firebird spinners - would have to be re-chromed) if buyer is interested in them.
Here is your chance at a gorgeous classic car, one that very few have ever seen. You will definitely most likely have the only 1979 Firebird Convertible at your local cruise and or car show. :)
She's priced at $22,500, but I will entertain legitimate offers.. Low ball offers will be ignored. This is a gorgeous, somewhat rare piece of American Engineered beauty. Good Luck!
