1957 Pontiac Bonneville Description

The 1957 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible was a truly limited production car, with a total of only 630 units produced. Unveiled to the general public January 11, 1957, it was the rarest Pontiac built at the time and remains one of the most collectible Pontiacs today. The one-year only body was a fitting swan song by longtime GM styling chief Harley Earl before his retirement.
The Bonneville's true distinction was in the area of performance. The inclusion of a fuel-injected engine was something that nearly no other car in the Bonneville's price range possessed. With a base price of $5,782, (more than twice the amount of a Star Chief Convertible) the Bonneville came with virtually every accessory Pontiac manufactured. If you wanted a 1957 Bonneville there was only one way you could get it – loaded. Air conditioning and an externally mounted spare were the only options.
Despite its grandiose and extravagant appearance, the Bonneville was also impressively powered, as the Rochester mechanical fuel injection proved most effective when put to the test. The fuel-injected engine turned 0 to 60mph in 8.1 seconds and won the Grand National Championship with a top speed of 101.6mph. Amazingly, it broke all existing records during the NASCAR trials at Daytona. Published reports had the horsepower ranging from 295 to 310, although Pontiac never released a specific rating for this engine, It is accepted that it makes 315hp.
The marketing plan for the debut of the Bonneville was also very unique. Each dealer in the US was given only one car to sell, which earned Pontiac a great deal of publicity. Customers knew it meant something to have a fuel-injected engine, yet it really meant something to own a fuel-injected Pontiac Bonneville Convertible.
The Bonneville featured here has lived a well maintained and well cared for life. Restored as needed, it looks and drives as expected.
As every Bonneville was top-of-the line, this particular car is highly optioned, including Wonder Bar radio, deluxe steering wheel, padded dash, mirror group, clock, cowl vent chrome trim, custom wheel discs and wide whitewall tires. Offering every available luxury amenity, the Bonneville also comes fitted with the total power group, including power top, power antenna, power steering, power brakes, power windows, and an eight-way power seat.
