1965 Pontiac GTO 4-spd Coupe Description
1965 Pontiac GTO Hardtop#'s matching 389/4 has never been out of the car!Z code proves it's a Fremont, CA built West Coast CarOriginally sold in Oregon, been in Arizona more than 20 years
1965 Pontiac GTO, 389/4v, 4spd, 10-bolt posi.
This car has the #’s matching 389 between the fenders but is backed by a non-matching 4-spd.
The car was born as a 3-spd manual which is included with the car, I see the 4spd as a definite upgrade.
The panel fitment is good, gaps are good and the car is very straight. No rust is evident anywhere.
This car has obviously been a west coast car its entire life.
The burgundy / black color scheme is the way it left the factory but new BC/CC paint has been reapplied sometime in the last 4-5 or so years – the car presents very well.
It runs and drives great, it has a very small oil leak which is to be expected from an original never-out-of-car 129K motor with no rattles or groans.
The front end is tight, the car doesn’t wander and it tracks well.
The PHS Rally I wheels and BFG Red Line radials are under 500 miles old and really makes the car pop!
The chrome and stainless trim are in good shape and shine up nicely.
The interior may be original, I’m not really sure but has the original Pontiac emblem embossed – I’m 6’4 and the seat creaks a bit when I drive it. If I was to keep the car I’d re-do the front seats with new foams and covers – but it looks pretty nice as it is.
This car is a great cruise night car and it can be driven anywhere with confidence.
If you’re looking for that classic American muscle car that turns head with a serious growl, you have to put the GTO on your list – it’s the one that started it all!
