1956 pontiac chevrolet chieftan 2 door hardtop
1956 Pontiac Other Description
Up for sale is my personally built, owned, and driven 1956 Pontiac Chieftain. The car was built over the course of two years by me, and has been on the road being driven for the last two years. The odometer currently has around 4,000 miles but the car actually has closer to 5k. This is a PROVEN and Dependable car. It has completed the 2017 Hot Rod Power Tour Long Haul, along with many other road trips, and cruises beautifully down the road at 75-80 mph. Everything on this car is brand new except for the original 1956 Pontiac body and trim parts.
The engine and driveline is a freshly rebuilt small block chevy bored .060 over, with ported and polished angle plug heads. It has an Edelbrock intake with a single 4 bbl edelbrock carb, and averages 17-18 mpg with the ac on. The transmission is a rebuilt 700r4 with overdrive and a Bowler Transmissions Lockup kit. The Rear axle is from a late 90's Ford Explorer, but features all new 3.73 gears, bearing, posi carrier, etc. The front suspension is from a mid 80's monte carlo, with all new bushings, and ball joints. It has been converted to rack and pinion, with drop spindles, and C6 13.5" Corvette brakes. The rear is a custom built triangulated 4 link and also uses the rear brakes from a Corvette. The wheels are 20" Raceline Desperado's wrapped in Hankook tires. The car does feature full 4 corner air suspension, so the driving and parking heights can be adjusted with a simple push of a button.
The interior of the car features stock seats that have been recovered with new foam and feature custom black leather and new 1950's Buick cloth. The door panels are built using 55 Chevrolet arm rests and restyled stainless trim. The front seat had new mounts fabricated to move the seat back 3 inches from stock to give more leg room, but are still on the factory tracks for adjustability. All of the original gauges were rebuilt, calibrated, or replaced. It has all new tinted glass, rubber seals, and window trim. It also features a crisp stereo consisting of 8 speakers and 2 subwoofers, powered buy 2500 watts of power, with ipod hookup and satellite radio capability. The Ac is a vintage 1950's add on unit that has been cleaned, tested, and refurbished. The heat is hidden under the dash with controls in the glove box.
The body of the car had very minimal rust requiring just a few small patches that were expertly replaced. All of the factory sheet metal under the hood has been replaced with custom firewall, inner fenders, smooth body mounts, radiator support, fan shroud, and closeout panel. There are very few visible fasteners, and the entire car is assembled with either grade 8 hardware or stainless steel. Every piece of stainless trim was straightened and repolished. All of the chrome is new.
The car has been featured in the March 2018 issue of Street Rodder, and was also in the 2018 Mac Tools Calendar. The only reason I'm selling the car is because I have other projects I want to move onto and cant keep them all. As I stated the car drives beautifully and is extremely comfortable. I would not hesitate to drive this car cross country, just like I did on power tour (1900 miles over 7 days). Included with the sale are the build records and receipts, along with the extra blue and white paint, the car was sprayed with. I have plenty of other build photos and can gladly answer any questions you may have regarding the car, and can be reached at 61eight91zero3948. The car is also listed for sale in other places and I have the right to end the auction at any time. I will assist with loading and helping transport but fees will be paid by the buyer
