BACKGROUNDIn 2004, while in the Marine Corps and deployed overseas in support of the Global War on Terrorism, I got online and wanted to buy a vintage muscle car to drive when I returned home. I purchased this 1978 Pontiac Trans Am through eBay for $14,000. The eBay listing described this car as "flawless" and "mint perfection" so I thought it was a good deal. I had the car transported from Arizona to my father's house in Kentucky.
The car was driven less than 2 miles the day it was delivered, and it has been parked (indoors) on my father's property ever since. The car was being started periodically to get the fluids moving, but that courtesy eventually ended the longer it stayed at my father's house. It no longer starts, but I'm guessing it wouldn't take a lot to get it going again.
I pulled the car outdoors and rinsed the dust off of it and took the photos you see in this listing. The car was ABSOLUTELY NOT flawless or perfect upon delivery. The seller I bought it from lied and misrepresented this car, but there was nothing I could do unless I wanted to take the seller to court; unfortunately, this wasn't an option since I was deployed overseas.
I am still in the Marine Corps and have been for 21 years now. I've been told that I could still sell this car for a lot of money to a collector, but at this point, I just want to get it off my father's property because I have finally accepted the fact that I will never do the work to make it a daily driver again. Below,I will describe it to you the best I can, and whoever the high bidder is will get to own this car. This car needs work, so please don't bid thinking it is ready to be driven.
THE BAD- The car does not currently run.- There is some minimal rusting on the bottom edges.- One of the T-Top windows blew off while the car was being transported to my father's house. It has never been replaced, but has had plastic taped over the opening where the window should be.- The odometer must have rolled over, because the old title I received (dated 1995) says the mileage is 87,578 (the current odometer reads 11,963).- The tires will need to be replaced.
THE GOOD- Overall, the paint is very nice.- The doors all close solidly.- All doors and panels hang straight and allign nicely.- The upholstery is in nice condition.- The interior door panels and plastic are in good shape and look like they were recently replaced.- Has original snowflake wheels.- The stereo system was upgraded with new speakers and CD player.- There are 4 keys accounted for.
TITLEI still have the 1995 Arizona title that was mailed to me back when I bought the car. I never drove the car, so I never had the car registered or title transferred in my name. The winning bidder can have the title transferred into their name, but I am not going to have it titled in my name first. I will mail the old Arizona title to the winning bidder of this auction as soon as payment clears.
PAYMENTPayment can be made with a cashier's check or money order and should be received within 7 days after the auction ends.
SHIPPINGThe car must be picked-up by 1 July 2018.For shipping quotes, use "41040" as the point of origin. I will give the complete address once payment is received.I will contact my father in Kentucky who will pull it outside and assist with it being loaded onto the transport truck.
PHOTOSeBay only allows for 24 photos per listing, butI have 100 more photos that I can send to you upon request.
