1978 Pontiac Trans Am Gold Edition Y88 Description

1978 Trans Am Gold Edition Special Edition Y88

1978 Trans Am, Y88, Gold Edition / Special Edition / Super Rare L80 403 engine code equipped car – One of only 880 made (according to Trans Am web sites). 1978 was the only year the Gold Special Edition Trans Am was ever made. This Trans Am is highly optioned and loaded with desirable goodies. It has the special Gold Fisher T-Tops used only on the 1978 Y88 Special Edition cars. The Engine is original numbers matching. I believe the transmission and rear axle are too. I could not find the serial number on either of them to get a picture to show that they are original. But by the looks of them I believe they are original as well.

Y88, (TA Special Gold Edition),Automatic Transmission, Custom Trim Group Interior, Color Coded (tan) Seat Belts, and tan colored plastic trim. Gold Fisher T-Tops, and factory Air Conditioning.

This car has only 75,501 miles. This Y88 is all 99% original, A rare un molested, un modified, survivor. It is 99 % rust free California car. Original sheet metal, original exhaust, air pump, compact spare tire with air tank, floor jack, California emissions, owners manual, original build sheet I found still intact in the rear seat springs. The only thing that has been altered is an aftermarket radio and alarm system (I have the AM/FM 8 track that came with the car). I installed Year One 17” x 9” Snowflake rims on the vehicle after I bought it. I have the original 15” x 7” snowflake rims that came with the car. This car runs and drives like a champ. I have driven the car to several car shows and have had zero problems with it starting or malfunctioning. It starts every time I use it and it never smokes when I fire it up.

According to all the experts on the Trans Am websites, in regards to production numbers, this car is one of 880 produced with this configuration (engine code L80). As one of only 880 produced, very few have lasted this long without having major modifications done to the vehicle. These cars are getting harder and harder to find in this condition. Most of these are rust buckets by now, or they have had the engine replaced, or had major modification done to them, or power add-ons installed. This car has no rust in the trunk, quarter panels, floor boards, or anywhere else you usually find rust. The interior is in excellent condition as you can see from the pictures. The dash pad is in perfect, no cracks anywhere.

Now for the bad, and the ugly. This car has its share of door dings, scratches, dents, blemishes, and faded paint. The only place on the entire car that has rust I could find is a small spot on the bottom of the driver’s side front fender. I call it a 20 footer. I have included pictures of the problem areas so you know what you are buying. I have other photos that I can send if requested. I only got to put 24 pictures on this post. The tachometer and oil pressure gauge do not work.
