The years have been kind to this 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am and it's also been exceptionally well cared for, having served under just two owners during its lifetime. Not only is its curb appeal at a high point, but its drivetrain, anchored by what's very likely the original powerplant, is running with conviction to provide a stellar experience behind the wheel. The exterior of this mid-'80s muscle car has been refreshed in a vibrant shade... of red and you can see right off the bat it was a job well done. Only recently applied, the paint has a great shine to it, with no textural flaws in sight, so it really shows off this Firebird's aerodynamic form. Once it was time for this fine ride to leave the paint booth, the signature namesake bird on the hood was reapplied for just the right authentic look and the distinctive graphics gracing the rocker panels were reapplied. In back, the spoiler sits nice and level on the deck lid, but since it's likely original, it could use some attention to bring it up to the high standards shown by the rest of the car. The contrasting trim and door panels have a deepness to their black color that really looks sharp against their red backdrop. Back in the mid-'80s, the T-top configuration was a big selling point for the Trans Am, as it offered the exhilaration of open-air motoring with a more sheltered driving environment just a few steps away, and the roof panels that are included with this one are in good shape and really seal nicely to keep the elements out. Climb inside and you'll be surrounded by a gray interior that was refurbished largely from scratch. Just as with the exterior, the workmanship and attention to detail here is obvious - the contoured, cloth buckets and the bench seat in back wear precisely fitted covers over new foam for plenty of support and they sit over an expanse of fresh matching gray carpeting. Above, the headliner was also replaced during this restoration and fits nice and snug - no small accomplishment on a T-top like this one. The dash area is in great condition, with an array of clear and functional factory gauges in the instrument panel and a straight pad running across the top. There's some clean handiwork on display on the center console, where an aftermarket Pioneer head unit has been installed with a custom surround for a perfect fit. Raise the hatchback and you'll find some welcome storage space that's in very clean shape. Below that unmistakably-branded hood lies a fuel injected 305 cubic inch V8 that's likely the original powerplant, and it still has plenty of go power on hand. It sits in a nicely maintained engine bay - everything appears to be in factory configuration here and you can see it's received plenty of maintenance to keep things looking so sharp. The engine teams with a 4-speed automatic transmission with an overdrive gear to bring the RPMs down at highway speeds. In order to elevate reliability during everyday driving, both the gas tank and fuel lines have also been replaced for unimpeded fuel delivery. Power disc brakes at all four corners bring this unusually fresh Firebird's set of 16" factory wheels wrapped with Sumic tires to prompt, low effort stops, while its power steering is functioning flawlessly for nice, easy handling. You very rarely see classics emerge from the past in the sterling shape shown by this 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, so it represents a rare opportunity. Call today!
