Very, Very Rare Car!
If you're a Pontiac enthusiast, whether it be today or back in the 60's, there was no way you didn't appreciate the GTO, or maybe the sporty Firebird but back than there were still some people that appreciated the heavy, menacing yet comfortable larger cars of that era. But when these large cars were ordered with the right options they've become some of the rarest cars that find their way into some very few fortunate collections today. These Catalinas were one of the last breeds Pontiac had made that was packed with luxury, and stuffed with power. They were long and sleek and wide and mean and with its legendary and rare 2+2 package with the 421 Big Block it was certainly not a force to be reckoned with at all. Less than 1900 of these 2+2's were built in 1966 and much less then that were made with factory air condition and the 4 speed option making this one of the rarest Pontiacs out there.
This particular Pontiac offered here today was bought brand new in NJ from a woman that appreciated everything this Catalina offered and stood for. She drove the car for 5 or 6 years and had given it to her son to drive for when he was home for college during the summers months until 1974. As the son started his career the large 2+2 was stored away in a climate controlled garage for the next 39 years and only saw the day of light for a quick wash and freshening and back into storage it went. For 47 years this remained in the possession of the original owner and within that time only 52k miles were driven since new. It wasn't until 2013, where the original owner was selling her house to downsize into a retirement community and was reluctantly ready to pass this special car on to its next owner. In 2013, this 2+2 was sold to its current owner and below you'll read all about the condition and the little extras that were added to make this car even more special then it originally was.
Exterior:
The body of this car wears all its original sheet metal and is solid and has been preserved very well its whole life. Underneath is original except for maintenance and the floors and frame are solid and original. The body is solid and has all its original sheet metal as well. All the chrome and brightwork is original and in excellent original condition. The glass is original and free of any damage or haze. The original color of the car was Barrier Blue. The current owner decided to change the color to his favorite Pontiac color of Fontaine Blue Poly. The job was done right which included the all the jambs, all the chrome, mouldings, and emblems where removed and reinstalled. He did the color change because he wanted a little more contrast between the interior and exterior and always liked the Fontaine Blue. Also on the outside the addition of the 8 lug wheels were added along with new BF Goodrich tires. You'll see in the photos that all the lights work including the reverse lights. Please view all the photos and let me know of any questions you may have.
Interior:
The interior, aside from the carpet is original and in excellent condition. Its remarkable on how well the door panels, the seats, the headliner and especially the dash have been well preserved and is in excellent condition. This car was has factory A/C and it blows ice cold. There were some subtle additions made when the car was repainted. The current owner added power windows, and a tilt steering column. However, the original steering is still on the car and if you know Pontiacs, you know how hard it is to preserve these. This one is beautiful. Also, the original AM radio was removed and an AM/FM radio with bluetooth and aux. was added to fit in the factory dash. There is not a rattle, squeak or noise in the interior as you drive. That type of silence only comes with original, low mileage cars. Please view all the photos and video and let me know of any questions you may have.
Drive-Train:
The legendary 421 Big Block is original to the car and is all date coded correctly. The factory 4 speed is also original and numbers matching. All of its a/c components are also original and functions as new. It blows ice cold. The engine received a full tune up and new timing chain. When they went to replace timing chain the original was like new. The tank was dropped and cleaned and a new fuel pump and hoses were added. All new brakes, wheel cylinders and brake lines were added along with the addition of power brakes. The original carburetor was rebuilt and new springs and shocks were also installed. Also, the clutch was redone as well. This car runs like new. If you have any questions please let me know. Please view the video.
