1972 Pontiac Ventura II Description

1972 Pontiac Ventura II (Pontiac Nova “POVA” as I call it)

Owned since 2009.

Pretty much the way I bought it. Has the same paint and interior, the guy said it had a rebuilt Chevy 350 .040 4 bolt main block “010”, with a small Blue Racer cam and a Turbo 350 transmission.

It had a new radiator, rebuilt alternator, electric fan. It has the 73-74 grill section instead of 71-72.

Being a teenager from the 70’s the automatic would not do! I called my good friend Danny from Danny’s 4 Speed and had him build me a wide ratio (2.52) Muncie 4 speed. It was made like an original 1972 Muncie’s where build, it has a fine spline input shaft and the large output tail (large yoke Turbo 400 style) with dual plug case. And in the process of changing it over, installed manual shift column along with a new Zoom Perfection clutch setup, roller pilot bearing, Hayes throw out bearing. Also has new correct Hurst shifter in the proper factory location for non-console cars.

In the rear end department. Replaced original mono leaf springs with new Eaton mono leaf spring with poly bushings, installed Cal Track style traction bars, installed Trams Am posi-traction unit with 3.42 gears.

Pulled motor at 4 speed swap, removed heads, oil pan and front cover. It was rebuilt .040 over with 4 bolt main block like the man said. I replaced the Blue Racer cam with Crane 282 H06 .470 lift cam (comparable to Comp Mutha Thumper) along with Comp Magnum lifters. Heads are 882 with 1.94/1.50 valves. I gasket matched the intake ports on the heads and installed Z28 valve springs. Installed new Holley street Dominator intake at assembly. Has a Sean Murphy Induction built Quadrajet with electric choke. HEI distributor with high output coil. Installed new Pro Street 24265 Harmonic Balancer also. New motor mounts and universal joints

Has factory Z/28-LT1 Corvette valve covers.

Has a Sony CDX-GT06 stereo with 4 speakers

Front end was disassembled and installed new a-frame bushings, ball joints, idler arm and pitman arm. Old Skool cars back in the day didn’t have power steering, so bought a manual steering box and rebuilt it.

Have a set of front 69 Camaro Z28 disc brake set up (except spindles), a pair of extra front grills and rear tail lights, along with the original power steering box and pump. Also has a set of headers that go with it.

Great body as far as rust goes, there has never been any rust in floor pans or under car. Previous owner said had a spot on bottom of left fender and bottom of right rear wheel opening molding area after six years it still looks good.

I have had the car for 7 years, but maybe only put 250 miles on it, if that as I’ve never had insurance or legal tag. It currently has a 1972 North Carolina tag that goes with the car.

The eight-year-old signal stage paint is named Mayan Gold WA424G. It looks good in the picture, but paint has some trash and some dry spots. Previous owner was not much at block sanding, so it has finger sand marks. Car looks good from 30 feet IMO.

This car has had a lot of the hard work done, ready for some new love. Car would be a good Driver and not a show car by any means.

The past several years we have turned our attention towards Harley-Davidsons and the Pova has gotten left behind.
