Strikingly Iconic 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Hardtop

The next amazing classic up for grabs in our Fairfield showroom is this gorgeous 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 2 Door Hardtop with factory correct Lucerne Blue exterior paint (26/26) and a black vinyl interior... (208) with bucket seating. You’ll find a factory true L67 Ram Air IV 400 cid V-8 engine with a matching M-20 close-ratio four speed manual transmission and 3.73:1 Posi traction on a 12-bolt rear end. This incredibly rare ’70 Trans Am has a mere 73,704 lifetime miles on the odometer and it has been fully restored back to glorious like-new condition throughout. With excellent lifetime documentation and PHS certification, there’s simply no guessing on this incredible muscle car.

Built Exclusively for Pontiac Motor Division as a ManufacturerDemo

The current owner of this 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Hardtop is the 5th to enjoy it and he has provided us extensive lifetime documentation to tell this special classic’s story. It was special ordered by Pontiac Motor Division dated July 24th, 1970 on the manifest, built on Norwood, Ohio and was used as a promotional vehicle to showcase Pontiac’s most impressive muscle car to date. It was moved around the country for special events during the first six months of its lifetime and was eventually put up for sale at Scotti Pontiac in Rochester, New York.

Over the next 20 years, this rare 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am changed ownership a few additional times and was painted white- which the 4th owner felt was a travesty for such a special vehicle. Only 88 Ram Air IV examples were built in 1970 and of the 59 4-speed units built only 6 were painted in Lucerne Blue. The 4th owner brought it to C.A.R.S of Pittsburgh in October of 2001 and returned this classic back to factory perfection during a year-long rotisserie restoration. There was some minor rust found during the restoration and it was repaired properly with steel- everything else on this amazing vehicle is either new, rebuilt or refurbished.

It’s also worth pointing out that during the rotisserie restoration, the factory motor was rebuilt with Super Duty rods and it was balanced as well. PHS documentation shows that the Ram Air IV engine, the 614 heads, the 4bbl Ram Air IV carburetor, distributor, transmission and the rest of the drivetrain are 100% numbers-matching, including the 3.73 Posi-traction and the 12-bolt rear end. We have extensive documentation of the entire restoration plus original paperwork, parts lists, etc. This is honestly the closest we’ve ever seen an example of this caliber reaching true perfection.

Fully PHS Documented & Rotisserie Restored in 2002

In terms of present condition, this 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Hardtop is absolutely breathtaking with an immaculate, blemish-free exterior and sensational paint. The exterior of this amazing classic muscle car would qualify as “museum quality” since the glass, trim, chrome work and the rest of the exterior are like-new in condition. Factory wheels and an immaculate undercarriage make this muscle car all the more impressive.

A look under the hood of this 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Hardtop will truly bring you back in time with a spotless engine compartment and an engine block that appears to have just rolled off the factory floor. True to its build, this ’70 Trans Am is a sensational performance vehicle with awe-inspiring acceleration, great handling and simply a dominant feel on the open road. You won’t hear a single squeak or rattle cruising the highway at 70 MPH thanks to the phenomenal build quality during the complete restoration. Of note, apparently the powers to be at Pontiac Motor Division ordered this car to be built without the factory rear sway bar. We can only assume that the Marketing People wanted to put the tire smoking capabilities of this rare RAM AIR IV Trans Am on full display to impress the automotive journalists writing about this beast.

As you’d expect, the interior of this 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Hardtop is just as impressive as the rest of this vehicle with fully restored seating, gauges, door panels and flooring. Interestingly enough, this example did not come from the factory with a front console and that’s how it has been restored as well. Every single aspect of this classic muscle car has been meticulously brought back to factory perfection and it belongs in a prestigious collection.

Possibly the Most Sought After Example in Existence

Overall, this 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Hardtop may be the most pristine, original example for sale nationwide and having a life history of its travels brings it to an entirely different level. A similar example in white brought well over $300k at auction last year, so this is an outstanding investment that will continue to appreciate in value. Don’t wait- come see this incredible muscle car for yourself today!
