1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible Description

1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible

concours
/knkoor noun An exhibition or contest, especially a parade of vintage or classic motor vehicles in which prizes are awarded for those in the best original condition.

For consignment, a concours quality 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible restored with every part that came with the car from the factory. The amazing example is PHS documented and a 2018 GTOAA Concours Gold Award winner and a 2019 POCI Gold Award winner. A mere 2 owner car, purchased from original owner in 2013, then the beneficiary of a no detail left aside frame off restoration. Matching numbers everywhere, and even down to every bolt being cared for. Also, of note is the original factory oil sending unit, in full working condition for this beauty, and original jack, lug wrench, and over 50 year old convertible top boot, still in its original storage bag. Essentially a showroom car now here gracing the halls of the Classic Auto Mall.

Exterior
With a mere 350 miles since its original frame off restoration in 2013, this exterior is simply gorgeous. All original, straight steel panels with very well minded gaps, and wonderful paint (actual Montero Red) looking just like the factory (not overdone). The stacked dual headlights with perfect bezels, flank the showroom quality grille and small Pontiac "beak" on the hood. A perfect white convertible top with not a crinkle in the rear plastic, is atop and is electrically actuated. The long trunk deck (NYC apartment for 2 size!) hangs off the back of this car, and inside has been fully restored to original right down to the US Royal Safety 800 7.75 x14 red line tires which are also all around and topped with factory rally wheels. Remember it is concours quality.

Interior
A swing of the doors and we see such features as all new door panels, seats which are front buckets with some angled stitching for the inserts and a Pontiac arrow on the backs, and smooth bolsters with chrome side trimmings, and a rear bench to match. Upfront a rally style gauge cluster fully restored by Instrument Specialties out of Rhode Island houses gauges in a wood appliqu. The cluster includes a tachometer. Also noted is the dual speed windshield wiper with washer option, original radio still working, and front seat belts with outboard retractors which operate flawlessly. A 1960's styled console races between the buckets and houses the long shift lever, and a glovebox topped with nifty ribbed aluminum door. In front of the dash is the original wood steering wheel, all nearly perfect. Black carpet floods the floors, and the inside of the convertible is black canvas, never actually lowered but most certainly working perfectly.

Drivetrain
Numbers matching in 389ci form putting out 335hp in a sky blue blocked and intake engine. The engine has its date coded fuel pump, alternator, starter, and voltage regulator, ending with the aforementioned oil sending unit. On back of this beautiful original mill is a numbers matching M20 wide ratio manual transmission, and a Safe-T-Track 3:23 rear axle GTO.

Undercarriage
Highly detailed, and featuring the factory correct Gardner exhaust system, the underside is as nice as the topside...trust me! Drum brakes are all around, and floorpans, rockers, toe kicks and wheel wells are absolutely dirt free as expected.

Drive-Ability
A test drive revealed all is in perfect working order, smooth acceleration, excellent shift quality, and like driving a new 1965 car.

Scoring very high in the Concours PHS judging sheet, this car is really only one of a very few that can be in this condition, all presenting nicely. The car comes with extensive documentation fully put down with every detail this car was put through to bring it to perfect. The original window sticker, protect-o-plate card, and owner's manual, and that rear boot cover still in the plastic, it's a cream puff like a gourmet treat.
