1964 Pontiac GTO Convertible Description

1964 PONTIAC GTO CONVERTIBLE: --Nocturne Blue with Black interior, Black carpeting, Black convertible top, 389ci Tri-Power 348bhp V8 engine, 4-Speed manual transmission, 36,000 original miles from new. Pontiac helped to create the muscle car era starting in 1964 with John Delorean’s GTO creation. Initially the GTO was a factory option for the Tempest LeMans and provided significant performance improvements over the base models. The GTO performance option included stiffer suspension with revised shock absorbers, dual exhaust system, special 14-inch wheels and a heavy-duty clutch and pressure plate. The GTO moniker was highly successful becoming its own model in 1966 and continued to 1974. This GTO was produced on June 18, 1964 at the Fremont, CA plant. It was originally equipped with many rare options including the L71 389 Tri-power engine with a 4-speed manual transmission. The base model had a single Carter AFB four-barrel carburetor while the L71 package replaced with three, two-barrel Rochester 2G carburetors. The result was an additional 25 horsepower and a full second quicker 0-60mph with the 4-speed manual. Other original options include seat belts, center console, vacuum gauge, tachometer, power steering and wood steering wheel. Originally sold through Eley Motor Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, the car remained in Utah through the 1990s. It was then registered in Arizona and then sold to its next custodian in Colorado in the mid-2000s. Remaining with a collector in Colorado since, this GTO has been well maintained and cared for over its life. With previous service records, the mileage is believed to be original. Front disc brakes were installed for modern driving conditions. This rare-optioned GTO is in excellent condition throughout. Well cared for in previous collector ownerships, it runs and drives well with all systems working as they should. This GTO includes its original window sticker, build sheet, PHS Automotive Service documentation, Protect-O-Plate, original owner’s manual and Accessories brochure and service records. Also included are the original drum brakes and master cylinder as well as the original jack, tire iron and tonneau cover. A truly iconic muscle car, this GTO is comfortable, yet dialed in for around-town cruising and is a perfect tour car for vintage rallies and muscle car shows. It is ready for immediate use and enjoyment.
