1946 Pontiac Streamliner Sedanette

Hard to find model
Comprehensive restoration
Excellent road car

Here up for bids is this sharp Pontiac "Sport Dynamic" coupe. This car was built at the Pontiac Michigan plant but has resided in the Vancouver BC area since the 1950's, coming back to the US just this last month when I bought it. This is the higher level "Streamliner" model with the 122" wheelbase and was Pontiac's first manufactured model post-war. This car was restored over a 4 year period from 1996-2000 and is pretty stunning everywhere you look.

This is a factory black car, it wears an older repaint that has a few flaws but overall stands tall. On close inspection you'll find a minor blend on the passenger side fender front, a dime sized area of rub-through on the front top of the driver's fender, and a few small dings here and there. That said, the paint quality is pretty nice; the finish is glass smooth on super straight panels, showing ultra-deep gloss and optical quality reflections. The body is completely rust free, undercarriage included. The overall impression of the car is "WOW", I just don't like to advertise any paint as "perfect". Tires are Firestone Deluxe Champions from Coker, all 4 in good shape.

Great panel fit throughout, trunk and hood close precisely, doors click shut with one finger. Deluxe bumpers front and rear, still looking good with only a few minor flaws.

Another standout Pontiac hood ornament, and another one year only design. The grill is in terrific condition, it doesn't appear to have been restored, just still looking great after 70 years.

Finished trunk with jacking equipment and spare. All of the glass is in excellent condition with the exception of a crack on the forward section of the driver's window. It's visible in some of the interior photos below (it doesn't affect window operation). All of the window trim and seals are in great condition, weatherstripping as well.

The interior was completely restored with all new materials to the stock specifications, it's a real strong point on this car.

The rubber inserts for the hidden running boards are original and still in good shape.

All gauges work and show good readings, the car has a new wiring harness from front to back. The mileage reading of 68K is believed to be original but due to its age the car is sold mileage exempt. The steering wheel has not been restored, another clue to the car's miles. Radio powers on and crackles, I'm going to have a look at the antenna. Glovebox clock is right twice a day. Lights and turn signals operate correctly, as well as the horn.

Very clean underdash area, the interior restoration was comprehensive. Heater works great.

Nice fit and finish from front to back.

The car comes with receipts from the restoration, original manuals and some old BC registration slips.
The 248ci Eight runs excellent, it starts on the button and has a whisper quiet idle. The motor makes good power and may actually surprise you, this car moves right off the line and is freeway capable, not always the case with cars from this era. The car runs cool, doesn't smoke and motors along with no hiccups and no drama. Braking power is good and the transmission shifts perfectly, this Pontiac is a real pleasure to drive.
Undercarriage is all original with no patching and no problems, just a super example of a post-war sedanette.
